Was fifteen seconds of "Wait, no, I hate the Bruins singer," followed by eighty-eight seconds of, "Oh, I get it."

Reminds me of:

.

There's just something about a ton of people singing an anthem that is beautiful; I wish we'd do it more often in the States.

The reason you don't see it in the states as often is the US anthem is much harder to sing than O Canada. I remember them talking about this before the Super Bowl. It has so many high's and low's and goes from one extreme to the other real fast and that's why so many professional singers can't even do it.

I've even heard it's one of the hardest songs to sing period. If you're ever at a game during the anthem watch the fans and you'll see that many are singing very low (almost a whisper) or just moving their lip's because they don't want to be heard.

That was honestly one of the greatest things I have ever seen. It is also amazing that Rene Rancourt put the mic down and let the fans do it.

As a few have mentioned it seems as sports just has a way to bring people together to do amazing things (maybe with the exception of Giants/Dodgers beatings)

I get what you are saying, and I too don't sing particularly loud when I'm at a game, but I do actually sing. I think a bigger problem is that for the most part, US fans don't even pretend to sing. Last few hockey games I've been to people have been talking or fiddling with their phones or watching but not singing. Now maybe it was just the fans around me those times, or maybe I was sitting near Canadian folks, or maybe they'd been to so many games it wasn't a thing for them anymore, but I was a little disappointed.

And while I understand that folks might not want their voice to screw up the tune, that's what the other 15,000 people are there for. That many people in a chorus will easily harmonize out even if EVERYONE is terrible.

For example, even if half the crowd is drunk as hell:

(Added bonus, it's a song Boston likes!)
