I'm really trying to get into watching golf, so I'm starting with this. I spent some time over the last few weeks reading up on people and story lines. Best part about the Masters is that it's like the perfect thing to have up on a second monitor at work.

The thing I struggle with is who to root for. I need a "guy" to watch and root for to get more connected.

I got into golf after watching Tiger win his first Master's back in 97. Prior to that I thought it was a boring old game for boring old (rich) white guys. Tiger obliterated the course, the field, and challenged several stereotypes that Sunday.

I still get chills when I recall him walking up to the 18th that day, the crowd roaring, then seeing him hug his mom and dad. He was just a kid then, with none of the baggage he carries today. It was a special moment.

One idea would be to pick 1 or 2 guys from the world top 20 (see above). Most of these are good guys to root for & it can be fun (some here will argue since they have their personal favorites & guys they hate). Personally - I like Thomas, Day, Tiger & Finau but really don't mind just about any of the top guys doing well. There is something to be said about just watching good golf.

Just don't expect any of these guys to consistently do well all year. All golfers have ups and downs - part of the fun of watching.

Stenson with a nice chip in on the 3rd when the commentators were slightly miffed he would chip it from just off the green instead of putting it

All the golf channel guys can do is CONSTANTLY size up each player's chances.

It kills me to say any of this but ...the methodical Tiger I have been seeing this year no way misses the cut.

The real weakness in Tigers game is the driver but he manages that really well. He often leave himself with more change to get home that the field but has not been paying the price for that.

Tigers putting is not the Tiger of old. But I bet his putting here will be in the top 30 or so. Him and Phil know every break in these greens. It maybe a different story if the greens a real slow.

I say Tiger will be in the top 25.

Oh and for the laugh of the day. The golf channel and Tiger for that matter blame his bad putting on his injuries.
Saying it prevents him from getting the practice in.

That's funny, because I don't remember anyone bringing up Tigers injuries when they were all fawning over his
129 mph swing speed after 4 back surgeries.

I tend to agree...Tiger is not swinging out of his shoes like he once did, but he's never been the most accurate driver of the ball and that is probably why he has more green jackets than USO wins. You can get away with spraying a little more at AN.

Top 25 is probably about right, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the top 10...right now Sunday is forecasting to be a nasty, potentially stormy day...guys could be hanging on come Sunday late.

Well with featured group coverage, I think they have like 6 players being covered so I would have the mouse ready.
