There is no other explanation...

The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Rick DiPietro and defenseman Mike Mottau have been placed on injured reserve. Mottau will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season, requiring surgery to his right hip.

DiPietro was out of the lineup for the first time this season on Saturday, Dec. 18 due to swelling in his right knee. The former first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft shows a 4-6-4 record this season with a 3.68 GAA and a .880 save percentage.

Mottau has sat out the past 10 games with an eye injury suffered on Nov. 21. He was cleared for physical activity last week, but has now been placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the 2010-11 season with a torn labrum in his right hip. The defenseman had three assists in 20 games this season.

How did Mottau get a torn labrum?? It's really only a matter of time as to when Ricky is going to have to hang them up. He does more stretching during warmups than any goalie in the league.

Well Roloson this is your chance to show the rest of the league you've still got it. The only downside is the team doesn't seem to score much, if at all when Roli plays.

The Wiz missed two games due to a suspension.

That's just the defense. What's amazing is Radek Martinek has been healthy so far this year, & he's always hurt. Knock on wood.

But how did McDonald miss 4-6 weeks... earlier this season... and Jurcina missed for 2-4 weeks... earlier this season?
Are they still trying to decide how much time they missed?
You'd figure that would be a lot simpler to add up.
