In 2008 Jim Zorn coined the term "staying medium" supposedly intended to infer a particular mindset as his team struggled with wins and losses. Unwittingly, coach Zorn also applied a descriptive that still applies to Washington football. This is not to say that we have a bad team, nor a good one, but when one thinks about this particular collection of players "medium" pretty much covers them all. With very few exceptions, outstanding, elite, and to a lesser degree very good cannot be found here. Ask yourselves, who's our Ray Lewis or his offensive counterpart? Who has that special "step up" gear that insists that others around him do the same? Truth is, we don't have those type of guys, but before this team ever plays a meaningful game late in a season, "medium" (average, typical, common, whatever) must give way to men possibly with a character flaw or two elsewhere, but not on the field of play.

Sty, you are absolutely right. Trent Williams might be our only true leader. Defense has no one. I would expect Kerrigan or DHall but apparently their teammates don't see it that way. We need someone to step up with both their play and their locker room presence. The defense is pretty good, but still suffers from not being able to make the stop or come up with a turn over when needed at crunch time.

Not intended to specifically use Ray Lewis, but to point out that almost all of the good ones have their own version of this type of guy. I'm constantly hearing others saying that this guy or that one has to step up, unfortunately for us most of our guys are exactly who they are albeit without a step up gear.......worse, no one to inspire and follow aspiring them to be better.

Technically zero teams have a Ray Lewis since he retired 3yrs ago :pound:but to answer your question honestly I would guess 20 out of 32 have a face for their team. I took Sty's question as you look at Panthers and think Cam Newton, you say Cowboys and think Romo, Broncos = Manning. You say Redskins and you ahhhh not sure.
