Ya, analytics is why Edmonton sucks. Not because they wasted a decade of high draft picks. It was definitely the analytics guy who suggested to the shitheel who traded Tyler Seguin for corn meal “yeah, definitely go ALL IN on Griffin Reinhart and Milan Lucic”.

Analytics probably didn’t tell Dale Tallon to wrap two of his three best players in a bow and sail them off to Vegas, either.

Pierre: Analytics suck! The best teams in the league don't use them!

#2 team in the standings the next day: promotes head analytics guy

I guess I always thought of it as a pretty good play especially when your team is in trouble in your own zone...

Agreed.

Seems like if you want to use this logic, then icing the puck when you are shorthanded is a "giveaway" also, no?

Quality of the guys you're sharing the puck with matters too - per TOI with since 16-17, Gardiner's job has been to get the puck to Hyman, Matthews, Marner, Nylander and (this season) Tavares; for Muzzin that's involved skating a fuck ton with Kopitar, Brown, Toffoli and Tanner Pearson.

You would think that first group of players probably do a much better job of making themselves available for passes than that second group, right? I think Muzzin will have a lot more success moving the puck with his new forwards.

I mean, it's not like there aren't times when it is an OK play. But most of the time it's not the best play, and lots of the time it's not a good play. I know, I know, I'm using such detailed statistical terms there  Kind of just a general idea.

Florida Panthers as a team have 1 short handed goal scored by Jared McCann.
Jared McCann's first goal against the Panthers is a short handed goal.

So on the season he has more short handed goals than the Panthers but also leads the Panthers in Short handed goals.
