If you were on a desert island and you could only choose 10 EP or LP Albums, which ones would you take? All that will be on the island is a salt-water powered CD player that does not have a radio function.....or if it does it's broken and no reception will be on the island.

Alright gents, I like doing these to try and find new/good music out there. Here are the rules:

1.) No double disc albums or boxed sets
2.) No cheating by saying "I-Pod"
3.) No Mixed CD's or bootlegs

Whodoya got?

Good one.

1. "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" - Wu-Tang Clan
2. "Sitting Army" - Cobra Skulls
3. "Bringing It All Back Home" - Bob Dylan
4. "Exile in Oblivion" - Strung Out
5. "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having" - Atmosphere
6. "Punk In Drublic" - NoFX
7. "Giant Steps" - John Coltrane
8. "Weathervanes" - Freelance Whales
9. "My Dinosaur Life" - Motion City Soundtrack
10. "Abbey Road" - The Beatles

This list probably changes monthly with some exceptions. It is certainly lacking some reggae that would be necessary on a deserted island, but I couldn't give up my punk rock guilty pleasures.

I wouldn't be upset to be "stuck" with your list. I might need to find a way to work "Purple" into mine. Love Elliot Smith, but might be a little too depressing for me to have on a deserted island. Is that one just in case you need the courage to end it? ;). Pussycat Dolls on loop might be more effective in that regard. I am unfamiliar with Mad Season. Who do you liken them, too?

LOL, I didn't think of that until I read yours, but I think you hit the nail on the head. I really can't believe I missed putting Bob Marley on there. How can you be on a deserted island and not have reggae? And yes, Elliott may make me end it all too soon, lol. I wouldn't mind being stuck with 1, 3, 7 or 10 in your list either. I was thinking of incorporating some Mac Dre or Dre Dog into my list, but couldn't eliminate another album to make room. The rest of yours I'll have to check out, I'm not very familiar with them.

Mad Season only has one album. They are Layne Staley (vocalist from Alice in Chains), Mike McCready (guitarist for Pearl Jam) and the bassist and drummer from the Screaming Trees. Basically, all of them liked to do heroin at the time and decided to make something productive with their time. What came about was an outstanding record. Here is their biggest hit off of the record, but the entire album kicks arse.

Mad season sounds KICK ASS!! I never heard of them. Were they pre-Seattle blow up (about the time of MLB) or post, when they were all big names already?

I am truly impressed that you guys are showing Purple the love it deserves. It is certainly on my Mt Rushmore of albums...

It was in '95, so both bands already were pretty damn big. Screaming Trees was a good band (Mark Lanegan as the front man) that never really found fame or fortune.....at least not as much as the other big 4 of the Seattle music scene.

And yes, Purple was/is awesome. Had a hard time though between it and Core.

Here's another Mad Season song with Mark Lanegan and Layne Staley on vocals:

I'll have to listen to these tracks when I'm not at work, but I'm certain that I will be purchasing the loan album. Thanks for the heads up. Working on your Top 10, cal?

Edit: Just saw it. Good one. Especially like the Amy Grant pick. Makes me wish I would've thrown some Wilson Phillips or Mr. Bigg on mine.

I was expecting people to comment on my inclusion of Heart in Motion, but I certainly wasn't expecting positive feed back :)

Real nice. Think I would've taken "Fashion Nugget" over "Prolonging the Magic," but still great choices. Love the Jamiroquai and Talking Heads albums. Never would've pegged you as such a funk fan, tzill. Good shit. Not familiar with Scritti Politti. Have to check that out.

Side note: Got dumped once for telling a girl that I liked Steely Dan. And she was a music major at USC! Guess that should've been my first clue.

Hahaha. Awesome. Probably should've thrown some Em on mine. Definitely my favorite Kanye album, but I would've thought most DMX fans would go with "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" or "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood." Still an unbelievable rapper. Never got into rap-rock much except for 311, Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine (if you can call them that) and select Limp Bizkit songs (very select). How did I leave off a Rage album?! :L

Fashion Nugget is a GREAT album -- especially the song Nugget, which they don't play often enough live. Comfort Eagle is great as well, as is Pressure Chief. I got introduced to CAKE by Prolonging so that's my touchstone. Same with Traveling Without Moving, but I love all of J Kay's stuff. I almost put The Motor Botty Affair on the list, as it has probably to most sampled track in all of hiphop. Scritti is a group led by a guy named Green Gartside who to this day has the best pop voice I've ever heard. Now with autotune it's tough to appreciate how tough it is to achieve great vocal pitch -- Gartside does this. I listened to that album every single day for about six months when it came out. Amazing production values, amazing voice. He had a nervous breakdown and was out of music for 10 years or so and re-emerged about a decade ago with a couple of albums. Check out any of this, which was the only Scritti Politti hit in the US:

Eminem - Slim Shady LP (whatever the first one was)
RBL Posse - Ruthless By Law Posse (Self Titled)
Dre Dog - I Hate You With A Passion
Dre Dog - The New Jim Jones
Warren G - Regulate (G Funk Era)

I'll finish later.....

This is a fun one. I'd go:

1. "Marshall Mathers LP" (except for "Kim," that "song" really creeps me out) - Eminem
2. "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" - DMX
3. "The Chronic" - Dr. Dre
4. "Doggystyle" - Snoop Doggy Dogg
5. "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having" - Atmosphere
6. "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" - Wu-Tang Clan
7. "College Dropout" - Kanye West
8. "3rd Eye Vision" - Hieroglyphics
9. "Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life" - Jay-Z
10. "Straight Outta Compton" - N.W.A.

I've been listening pretty much to Em's new album lately. It's awesome.

And let me just say, I have what most people outside of my age consider crap music (rap, hip hop etc...), but I still do love classic rock n' roll.
