To fit the role, I think you need someone who is a little more fit.

....say Gabrielle Union.

Why does the woman have to be fit.??? its actually more believable that she is a bigger woman... as it is more the unassuming... and this role is different fighting... its a much more cerebral fight... More pressure points, more using her weight, and more using her surroundings... If you want to believe a Soul Cycle athletic woman is a good choice, then you clearly don't get what the role is...

The entertainment industry can be sooo lame. First they do a TV show.. that was good, so let's make a movie of it.. that was successful so let's make sequel. That was successful so let's do another TV show, but this time with "Girl Power"! Can the transgender, disabled Equalizer be far behind? Meh.. it's all just fantasy. I like her, though I don't really see her in this sort of role. But I'll withhold judgement until I check it out.

Agreed its an atrocious role choice. Age, physical skill set...much moreso than race.

I agree here and with teh OP. What a stupid choice! Race has nothing to do with it. Denzel did well in the recent Equalizer movies, and I could easily see a woman in the role, but Queen Latifah? Might as well have picked Amy Schumer.

As I said I have less issue with gender than her specifically.

I am a lee child fan. Jack is a huge guy in those books. Tom cruise is a below average sized male even by your everyday standards. Id have rather had The Rock play Reacher even though he's black than have Cruise play him
