Ryan Newman taken to hospital following wreck in Daytona 500 | NASCAR

It was a racing accident. It's same thing as when Carl Edwards flipped off of Brad Keselowski's bumper. Ryan Blaney faked low, and went high, Newman was the leader and tried to block, but was too late in blocking Blaney's move up top and hooked himself. Happens a lot coming to the finish at tracks like Daytona and Talladega.

Attempted murder was what Kyle Petty did to Davey Allison in the early 90's.

Like I said I don't watch NASCAR so I'm not an expert.

Everyone remember when a teary eyed Denny Hamlin interviewed with Marty Smith after his wreck with Joey Logano that hurt his back, and he was saying he was so upset that Joey Logano took his safety for granted?

Now Douchebag Denny celebrates while one of his competitors is being rushed to the hospital with no news thanks in large part to his actions.

Overreaction. Word doesn't spread instantly to everyone in the pits the moment something happens. In moments like, the TV viewer can actually get info quicker than it spreads into the pits. You also have to factor the 11 team just won the race. Like everyone else's reaction, they saw the wreck and said "oh, that's a big wreck." and then turned their attention to who won. Since they're directly invested in who wins (unlike fans), the natural reaction is to celebrate winning the biggest race of the year. In the moments they were celebrating, everyone else realized that the situation had gone from "that was big wreck" to "oh shit, he could likely be dead". Once the 11 team became aware like everyone else, they got somber just like everyone else. They did nothing wrong and its foolish to place blame. Hell, Michael Waltrip was celebrating his 500 win when his boss was killed right behind him. No one shit on him for that. And then like it was now, once word got around, the mood changed.

The way the cars are built, it's a miracle Newman is alive. He took a direct hit at speed to the driver's side window/pillar to the roof. The roof is designed to take down crushing hits, the door is designed to sustain hits from the side. You can't really design too much safety for a side hit right between the two. I'm not blaming the design here, there's just not much you can do. That was basically the worst case scenario. It is literally by God's grace he's alive.

But honestly, NASCAR has been flirting with this disaster for awhile now. They cannot keep having them race in packs like this where the aeropackage has the cars at such a hair-trigger. Every one of these plate races is a demolition derby because of it. At some point, the odds will come out tragic. They have to break them up. If its boring to watch them go single file or get strung out, so be it.

Sorry guys. After I heard he was still alive I just needed to take 5 & leave.

No one should be blaming the 11 team or Blaney or especially Lajoie.
This type of racing promotes this disaster to be a great possibility.
Austin Dillon got lucky, Kyle Larson, Geoff Bodine.

I remember a few years ago (maybe more than a few now)
I remember they interviewed drivers for a pre race (think it was actually talladega) race piece. Now they all said the same things they basically say all the time (que the Tony Stewart quotes) what was eerie was they also interviewed wives of these drivers. Krissie Newman back then was talking of not wanting her husband to die. In that same race as you fast forward. Ryan got turned went upside down late in the race (believe landed on Harvicks car if memory serves me)but it smashed his roof down onto his seat & helmet. Literally pinning him inside the car. After that race by the time they went back to the next plate race they added a bar to help prevent the roof from coming down on the driver. they called it the newman bar. Scary thing that day (nothing like today) was when he landed on his roof it took out his radio so no one could find out if he was ok.
I remember watching this piece in the morning & later Krissie going to the incare infield practically crying. (before they could even get ryan's car turned over)

Plate racing today still promotes the same thing. No difference from way back then.
Thankfully that day. He wasnt talking because his radio was dead. He was unharmed. but got a 50K fine for speaking his mind in his interview after being released.

Newman's car was like 100 yards away. Denny took Newman's safety for granted, which is what he was crying about just a few years ago. When Michael Waltrip won, Dale Sr's car was still all the way back in turns 3/4, and the wreck didn't look near as serious(it turned out to be far more serious, but didn't look more serious)

I've never respected Denny Hamlin and I never will.
