4 year deal.

Most hall of famers make horrible coaches, general managers, and president of basketball operations.

But, Nash is not most guys.

In general, point guards in the NBA and catchers in the MLB make the best coaches / managers.

I hope it works out.

And I agree with Barkley, who called out other media members who said this was white privilege.

Barkley pointed out that Mark Jackson, Jason Kidd, Derek Fisher, Isiah Thomas had all gotten jobs too with no prior head coaching experience.

He agreed that some other guys were passed over, but that the Nets wanted Nash, and that he had good potential, so they got him.

I didn't think he was that good of a hire. His offense sucked when he had LeBron James in Cleveland.

He's improved a lot since then.

His offense is pretty good now.

And he's able to get players to improve a little bit defensively, even if they're not consistent. His players respond to him and accept his coaching.

The entire coaching staff receives credit.

I didn’t read the article and maybe I should. But how did he won a coach of the year before?

He won it when he was head coach for Cleveland. He coached Cleveland from 2006-2010, then again in 2013-2014.

That's when Cleveland had the really bad offense (even though they won a lot of games).

Well the ORTG was good, but it still wasn't a good offense.

Cleveland won 66 games in 2008-2009, when Brown won the award.

Hmm… the team won 66 games and had a good ORTG with the Coach of the Year and James and the offense was really bad. Makes sense. I don’t know NBA History enough to know what bad you are talking about. Too reliant on one guy? To one dimensional? Took a lot of shots to negate a bad percentage? Was too slow? Couldn’t rebound? Held ball too long? Not a good transition team? Boring?

Too reliant on one guy? To one dimensional?

Yes, those two.

The roster around him didn't help, but James had to score or assist on more possessions than probably anyone else.

Plus, there just wasn't much player movement.

Even in some cases when they are reliant on one guy, there's at least a lot of screens being set, or something.

Not in this case.

It was kind of like watching James Harden.

The defense was rated 3rd, so that also helped with voting.

I might have been ok with Brown's coaching award win in 2009. I just didn't like his offense.

66 wins is worthy of consideration, especially with only one All-Star.

Mo Williams was an injury replacement for Chris Bosh. He was a fake 2nd All-Star. Not because he was an injury replacement, but he didn't deserve to be there. He wasn't that good.

I think it’s a sign on how poorly some GMs are doing in building teams or how much pressure they have to win when there are coaches of the year, Finals appearances or wins, and highest NBA record being fired. I mean, I understand Snyder, but that came with it also being the players being traded. I know it’s about championships but you can lose your job losing to the Nuggets, team with the best record (west) when you’ve been COY twice.

10 Game 7 losses (I don’t know how many wins). I wonder how many games where they were down 3 to 2 where he helped them force game seven?

I’m not a Doc Rivers fan, but I’m kind of thinking about how some have put down Tom Brady for losing three Super Bowls and they put down LeBron James for losing NBA finals, but the fact they got there is better than anyone else in that year besides the champion. I would rather lose in the Finals, than in the Western Conference finals. I’m not comparing Jordan and LeBron, but there are plenty of seasons where Jordan didn’t finish on top.

Of course, I’m not comparing forcing game seven as being the same as getting to the finals. I’m just saying that it takes a certain level of talent to not go out in 4 to 6 games.

First of all, why would you be embarrassed for trading the first thing for the second? How do you know the Doc is good? What if he's a bad, never listens to his patients, abuses the patients, tells them they're great only for the patients health to fall apart, lets them do whatever they want and eat junk food doctor, while the nurse is the "will do whatever it takes to heal the patient" dedicated health care worker?

The emoticon should have been an applause one, not the embarrassed one.

I don’t like Doc Rivers. I just shared for the joke of the names.
