This article starting swaying hard and so i couldn't finish reading. This is the first time I wouldn't be upset if we ditched the 3-4. We often talk about why, our OLBs aren't getting 10-15 sacks. We STILL have a joke of a personnel for the 3-4 at S/D-Line. We appear to have depth to run a 4-3 and could draft and pick up free agents.

one forum posted it this way...(not my thoughts)
RE - Orakpo
DT1 - Cofield
DT2 - Carriker/Jenkins/FA maybe?
LE - Kerrigan

ROLB - Jackson/Robinson/FA/Draft pick maybe?
MLB - FA or Draft pick
LOLB - Riley

Also Kerrigan is not too small to play LE, he can be subbed on runs if needed, can gain weight, played LE in college and has been used to stunt in the 3-4 for blitzers.

not against a total revamp or a coach that runs the 3-4 much much better

Who do we have to play the LB positions in the 4-3 exactly?

Please don't say Rob Jackson because he's more of a DE than RAK.

Half the defense is either FA or suspect starters to begin with. New coach, new system... zero reason to stick with a 3-4 that has been horrid. Aside from Rak and Kerigan (who are both suspect in coverage by the way) exactly how many 3-4 LBs do we actually have??

zero reason to stick with the haslett version of the 3-4

now if you went 4-3 then tapp and jackson are better candidates for the de job then Rak who has never been a pro de

So keep him as an OLB in our 4-3. We still dont have the rest of the personnel currently on roster to run a 3-4. Rak had his best year as an OLB in the 4-3. Kerigan can transition to DE, right now we could go either way, but we are gertting zero pressure from our 3-4 so whats the point in sticking with it?

The 3-4 is better for today's NFL. It gets more pass rushers on the field and brings them from different places. We don't need more OLBs than RAK and Kerrigan...name a team with three pro-bowlers at OLB.

The main cases against a 3-4 is the nose tackle position. A top notch nt is paramount for a successful 3-4. Coefield is ok, but he's out of position. There just aren't that many really good nose tackles, they are real hard to find. You end a guy that is around 6'2" and 350 lbs and very quick. Very rare commodity.

I hear people saying Cofield isn't a good NT but the performance reviews have not supported this statement.

yep , and boy do people forget . statistically Cofield graded out the best at his position in the NFL .

however having Cofied at DE gives us one of the nimble , 2 gap de's we could use who also can bring pressure

now were were asking how many 3-4 guys do we have ? we have riley Rak , kerrigan , robinson , tapp , jackson and jenkins .

what we dont have is a DC who uses these guys to their potential because we play a read and react 3/4

i posted this in another thread , perhaps you should read up on it

Cofield has been amazing with poor ends around him. We'll see what FA we can pick up but then again why would Talib and Byrd wanna come here?
