I actually thought they would name him Captain once he returned, but I guess waiting makes sense for two reasons.

First, I don't believe naming someone captain is any more likely to make them stay with a certain team, so they might want to make sure he does stay.

Second, whoever is the next coach has the right to name the captain, and we definitely don't want another ugly Elias/Langenbrunner incident. So I can see Lemaire just wanting to let the next guy handle it, or waiting to see if he comes back.

Parise will be the captain, but now is not the right time. Do it in training camp next year.

You know that's a really interesting point. This season was such a colossal struggle for the guys that were actually playing. Frankly, Zach wasn't part of what they went through.
