The Bengals couldn't win the Super Bowl..... The entire premise of this post is flawed.

We might steal a playoff game one of these days though.

We have to get a #2 WR and a LB'er who can actually play football. Then maybe we win a playoff game.

These playoffs exposed the Bengals for their weaknesses.....quarterback, running back, second receiver, and mlb all must be upgraded for the Bengals to be competitive at the top level....we can get into the playoffs with what we have, but that's all.....the 49ers have a great defense, but without being able to score in bunches they wouldn't be in the Super Bowl.....and we had a chance to draft Colin Kaepernick (sigh).....

Some folks around here think we're just fine at receiver. It's sick.

All you have to do is look at Atlanta. They're loaded at WR with White and Jones. We need a bookend to go with AJ. It's easy to see the differences between the top teams and the Bengals.

Roddy White's 8 yrs older than Julio Jones. When they made the trade for Jones they were getting a great WR tandem in the present, and the heir apparent for the #1 WR spot on their roster for the next decade..

When you have a young WR the caliber of AJ Green already on the roster getting a dynamic #2 isn't as pressing a need imo.

edit- I'm not against suring up the WR corps if the right player is available in FA. But spending a 1st rd pick or signing a big time WR is a luxury more than a need

Then you are crazy. Teams will just double Green all day long and we have no one else to be a game breaker.

If they don't think Jones is gonna be that guy either sign a #2 or draft one.

thanks for the definitive answer.

there's already a dominant #1 on the roster. getting a player like Green is the hard part. I agree about adding complementary WRs through the draft and (low priced) free agents. they're already developing young WRs. it's being done the right way.

Its not being done the right way if they don't get that guy. They know more about Jones progression that I do. If they think he can be that #2 then fine. If not then sign someone. I'd be fine with throwing some money at Bowe, or Jennings, or Wallace.

Bottom line is they need more production from the #2, whether he's here, or yet to be acquired. I lobbied for a vet last year, and I haven't seen enough to think we couldn't still use a productive vet. And Dalton needs to get much, much better, or they need to find their franchise quarterback. And they need a back who is a threat to take it to the house, and a receiving threat, wherever he is.

Exactly right.

It's something some of us advocated last offseason. They should have - and still should - sign a veteran receiver (not high priced, but also not one that's on his last legs) to pair up next to Green in the short term while Sanu and Jones mature.

The biggest problem right now though is at QB.

I know how this works. They'll stick their heads in the sand regarding Dalton, and they'll stick with their receivers, and they'll bring back Bernard Scott, and they'll stagnate at their present level for a couple of years then go back into decline. It's what they've always done. Mike Brown is the poster child for insanity. He keeps doing the same things over and over expecting results to change.

This is exactly what's going to happen.

It's gonna be interesting to see how he gets around the new salary cap rules in the upcoming months. Rest assured...he's going to get around them.
