Do these upsets really mean much if there is a 16 team playoff?

Today, might have been a ho hum day otherwise.

just a thought..maybe a bad one..but...a thought

I only want a 4 team playoff

or just a rule that you have to win your conference

with a 4 team playoff it would still be the drama of these 4 teams losing out of the playoffs

I can live with that and maybe 2 losses knock you out too

Upsets are the reason the BCS needs to go. Name another sport where one bad game in the regular season can cost you a chance at winning a title.

I like the 4 team playoffs. It still makes the regular season just as meaningful.

I wouldn't mind seeing a BCS where the bowls are based on ranking without the 2 conference limit and without AQ conferences.

adding another bcs at large would be pretty good.. or you could have 4 conference winners play for the title in an extra bcs bowl leading to the title game

Name another sport where there is this much excitement spread over such a broad field of play? Think about it, the past four weeks of this season have been nutty and exciting. The season isn't even over yet. College Football makes things enjoyable for everyone involved. Yeah you may get mad and cry abut not getting into the big game you wanted, but that is all part of the enjoyment. Leading up to that let down you were invested and completely wrapped up in what was going on. Not just with your team, but dozens of other teams. With the NFL, NBA, MLB, Hockey, ect; you might have that interest in 1-3 teams outside of your team, at best. Your division foe that you're in a race with you or, if you are a wild card team, two other teams that might be jockeying for your position. In college football you have to be all in, as much as I hate to use a saying that Auburn murdered. Every game of the season is EXTREMELY important to any fan of a team that is in the general area of contention. You can't drop two games and realistically expect to make up that ground. It is so difficult that you don't want to even drop one game! So you watch the first three weeks of the season trying to judge how your team stacks up. You might be lucky enough to even have a big game early to give you a good idea. You get through those first three weeks unscathed and then the reality sets in that the season is now really starting. Any of the anxiety you had before now was just a warm up. Now things are real as you enter conference play. You move on to a 4-0 to 5-0 and so on...

Then you might drop a game and be absolutely beside yourself because that one loss might be to much to overcome, but there is hope; and you latch onto that as you tirelessly watch the rest of the nation play their part in your destiny. You draw out what needs to happen in your head. Sometimes that works out for you. Sometimes it doesn't, but it has invested you into so many other teams that you would normally not even give a second glance. Now you are in college football.

Maybe that isn't your case and you are LSU right now, or Auburn, Oregon, Alabama, Texas, ect from recent years. You are unbeaten, but the season is drawing to an end. As each game goes by you get a brief feeling of relief only to be quickly replaced with that anxiety of next weeks game. The stakes are higher as the season draws to an end. You have to play those games and if you lose... everything might be for nothing; or everything might have been played to get through the most grueling process to achieve the ultimate goal.

This is what college football delivers. This is why I don't want a playoff... Just give me more blood pressure pills.

More news coming out that the whole concept of AQ's is done after this cycle.

For us middies, it was nice while it lasted. What comes next will almost certainly exclude us.

The BCS is most likely tuning up for the massive change in conference alignment. Don't worry Boise, you will get picked up by one of the four major conferences. I see this all working out for the best in the end. There will be enough room for all of the teams that really matter, from season to season, to have their place in the new format.

I would like to believe you are correct but I don't have much hope.

Should be 6-8 teams with the 5 major conference champions and at-large(s).

In the 6 team format the two with best records get a first round bye.

The key is that a playoff should be based on winners of the top conferences (with a chance for everyone else), not rankings. The whole idea is to not have voters and computers (especially computers) deciding.

So if Arky beats LSU and UGA wins the SEC CCG, we could have 2 non-conference winners from the same conference playing for the championship (LSU vs Bama) and you wouldn't have a problem with it? LOL.

Yea, the system is fucked up and needs a severe overhaul.

Broad field of play? Are you serious? Right now the way the BCS is configured it is the most uneven field of play ever designed to make sure borderline teams never have a chance of proving it on the field. Of over 600+ wins in FBS over 50 have come against FCS opponents, most by the Big 6 conferences. How it the hell is that fair?

As for interest in other teams I have none really outside of my conference and my team. I watch them first and occasionally watch other games. A lot of this is due to the fact that a lot of the games are just bullshit, e.g. Bama-Ga. Southern. Why in the hell does the SEC schedule such crappy games this late in the season? Move the SEC schedule back one week and schedule real opponents earlier in the season like everybody else.

In your scenario, then I think Ala/Okie St.
