He's a running back so it doesn't surprise me. You can never have too many of them. Now I would have taken Pierce over Spiller, but it's not like either are a slam dunk. He also had the 1.4 and took London so he probably wanted to get a running back and a wide receiver with those two picks. I mean there's certainly no guarantee on anybody in this class producing, so the rookie drafts I've been a part of have been all over of the place this year more than any other year. And not all of us share your affinity for wide receivers.

then take the Day 2 RBs, not the Day 3 guys that end up on practice squads

Hey I'm never going to assume that the Day 2 guys are better than the Day 3 guys said everybody that was all in on Trey Sermon last year when the guy drafted three rounds after him beat him out for the job handily.

that's fair, it's not like there was any track record of Shanahan family screwing with fantasy RBs or anything that we could've used to foresee that coming

I like hearing that from our WR guru. ......

Pervy McHappyEnding might squash any immediate value if there's a suspension coming, but pretty wide open competition behind Cooper and he showed out while Rondale was injured throughout college

I dunno...People's Jones is for real imho. Not to mention Chubb and the likelihood of the offense still going through him first, Watson or no Watson.

Oh, I'm not naïve enough to expect big number from him yr 1. DPJ is a fine deep threat for sure and there is no doubt CLE will remain a run first type team, perhaps a tad less with Watson (if he even plays this yr). The hope is, Bell playing the slot and be inline for potential Landry type production - that's what they drafted him for.
Albeit, no matter the usage, the investment is low on my end so if he's out there as a starter he'll likely exceed the draft capital I have invested in him.

good news on that front - the Brown's investment in DPJ is even lower than yours and theirs in Bell, but DPJ was a picked under current regime. Nothing will be handed to Bell, but he could def earn it.

oh fer sure, that area to pick him is spot on, if he is something, anything, that's a jackpot. If not, not a big loss in any way shape or form.

I just get a chuckle when he's going earlier than that and being brought up as some great sleeper candidate in some other random discussions. I just don't see it. Especially if Watson gets a lengthy suspension. Chubb, Cooper, DPJ, Njoku, Bryant, and Hunt at minimum, in competition of the ball.
Even when Watson was slinging it exceptionally well, he could only maintain Nuk/Cooks and Fuller, any individual TE was pretty much non existent, and the #3WR wasn't much better..and that's even considering all the missed time for Fuller. Guys like Stills, Coutee, and Cobb were basically bystanders even with that opportunity, and Stills and Cobb are/were solid WR's.

To be a realistic fantasy asset, he'd have to climb to no lower than third on that above list, and I'm not sold on him having the talent level to be higher than 5th.

But, shit..I've been way wrong before, and I'm sure I will again....and again...and again. Totally different coaches, different offense, maybe it'll be different, but I wouldn't bank on it

Plenty of ways to get the job done, like seeing other strategies, but 5th/6th/7th round RBs over Day 2 WRs is bad process, even if you hit on your RB. Statistics and NFL trends confirm that in regards to hit rates on those players for fantasy purposes.

*unless you're in a standard scoring league, then RBs are gold

agree for the most part, although if its day 2 WR's vs a longshot RB, that choice is gonna come down to roster need for me, especially if one of those longshot RB's has a seemingly easy path to touches like Algeier and D Peirce and this year. If I've already got 4 or 5 WR's that are usable, I'm taking the shot on that RB most times.
10 touches at a RB position I'll likely need is worth more than WR2 numbers that'll likely be on my bench anyways

In general.....
in full PPR, you don't even leave the top 12 at each position before WRs overtake RBs
in half PPR, it's typically in the 13-16 range, so there's only a handful of RB2s that will outscore the WR2s

4 of the top 6 non-QB point scorers were WRs last year, I want as many chances of landing a guy that could be one of those 4 as possible. you absolutely HAVE to be holding a 1.01 - 1.03 if you want a chance in hell at a rookie RB that has the opportunity to be one of those 2 RBs.

give me BPA with my 1st two rounds - top RBs at the top of the list, but after the good ones are gone I'm not reaching for the scrubs early. I'll take some stabs at the awful hit rates from the day 3 RB pool with 3rd/4th/5th rd picks if I need some roster cloggers to sit on my bench in the hopes someone gets injured and they actually see touches vs some other schlub off the street (I'm looking at you, Devonta Freeman!)

there are way more misses on late draft pick RBs than there are at early round WRs, statistically, so I always want to put my team in the position to score the most pts possible.

Well you ain't wrong, with any of it..I'll still take the RB if I think I need one more than a WR :)

In what started as something much bigger, Fout and I made a minor deal. I send Abram Smith and Brevin Jordon for Van Jefferson. We both end up with guys we hope to never use. .....

This reminded me of the Rams and Jets trading their bust LT picks to each other so they could both cut them without paying

That's likely a good analogy. Especially if the Rams resign OBJ. .... if not, then low level insurance for me. Nothing ventured, nothing gained kind of thing. It started as something much bigger but we just couldn't agree - his player evaluations are much different than mine..
