race for the Calder cup is on
TheAHL.com | The American Hockey League | Home

last night the Chicago Wolves blew a 4-2 3rd period lead to lose 5-4 in OT to San Antonio.
Young Niklas Jensen was strong, with a pair of goals for the Wolves.

I went to a couple of Denmark games at the WJHC, puck. This kid is big and has a great motor. He really competes out there and has some skill to boot.

I think he'll be an NHL regular for 10 years or so.

Chicago Wolves battled back to even their series at 2 (lost the first two games).
series deciding game back at home on Friday.

Reinprecht scored 2 big goals in the 3-1 win. glad he's been useful for that $2 million salary (that couldn't be called up)

Wolves - Rampage heading to double overtime in the deciding game of the series.
Mike Duco tied it up with about a minute left int he 3rd.

in net: Eddie Lack facing former Swedish teammate Jacob Markstrom
good story about those two. Canuck scouts made the trip up to Galve to see Brynas IF goaltender Markstrom, and it happened to be one of the few games that back-up Lack started (he was in 14 games all year).
Markstrom was drafted 31 overall, by Florida, but the Canucks ended up signing the undrafted Lack later on, based on what they saw in that game.
He'll probably be the back up in Vancouver next season.

The Baby Flames are deep in the heart of Canucks territory in Abbotsford, B.C.

Ahhhh. We had them here in SJ for 10 years until 2003. The AHL use to be the league of choice for the Maritimes before everyone kept switching over to the Q as the AHL expanded its borders west and south. We were the last city to switch to the Q and as a result the last Maritime city to win the Calder Cup in 2001, yet still managed to be the 1st to win the Memorial Cup. :D

Marlies and Heat split their games in Toronto, now they are splitting a plane across the country. Not quite the budget to get their own planes in the AHL.
Wonder if any bad blood was grown in the first two games. Could make for a tense flight.
