Welcome to the Offseason where each weekend is dedicated to the 2018 season as we fill in the space until it's time for College Football to return on August 24.

We're at the beginning of the 2018 campaign. UCF has celebrated having the Best Win-Loss Record in FBS. Alabama has celebrated winning the Plus-One Bowl and getting that 1 spot in the 2 major final polls. ND State has celebrated winning another National Championship at the FCS level. TAMU Commerce has celebrated winning the D2 National Championship. Mt. Union has celebrated yet another National Championship at the D3 level. St. Francis-IN has celebrated winning the NAIA National Championship.

The Winter workouts, Spring practice, and the Summer practice have all concluded. Rosters have been set for the time being.

Week 0 is the Saturday before the season commences a little more proper with only a handful of games featuring teams that have road dates at Hawaii and an FCS season opener. The FCS season opener has defending HBCU National Champion NC A&T defeating Jacksonville State in a close, but ugly game ripe with penalties. Rice holds on to beat Prairie View A&M after a walk-off field goal. Hawaii starts off with a win on the road at Colorado State, and NM State gets stuck in the Afterglow Trap of having won their first Bowl game in a long time, losing at home to Wyoming.

For the FBS teams, it's all about making it to Santa Clara or at least a New Year's 6 Bowl otherwise. Today's Game of the Week isn't anything all that special. It's not a close game by any means and it's FCS/FBS, but it is the contest that gets the 2018 campaign started. The road ends in Santa Clara on a cool Winter's evening, but it begins on a late Summer afternoon in Amherst.

Heading into Week 0, both the Dukes and Minutemen have aspirations. For Duquesne it's about using the FBS teams to toughen themselves for the NEC schedule and possible Playoff berth. For UMass, it's the first step in trying to get to 6 wins and Bowl eligibility.

This game is broadcast on Eleven Sports, who have the rights to all UMass home games during the season.
