With the draft behind us, the next big off season conversation starter will be the schedule. The NFL will be releasing the schedule May 14th, and we'll probably have a few leaks before then.
Here's what we already know.
Home:
Chiefs
Chargers
Raiders
Jaguars
Titans
Cowboys
Giants
Bengals
Packers
Away:
Chiefs
Chargers
Raiders
Texans
Colts
Eagles
Commanders
Jets
Some random thoughts...
Just looking at the slate of opponents with no additional context, I think it looks like it's going to be a tough year for this up and coming team. I also think this up and coming team is capable of matching or improving on last year's mark of 10 wins. But I'll get to that after the actual schedule is out.
I am hearing rumors the Broncos will be featured in one of the league's overseas games. If they do I prefer it be as the visiting team, though a simple search indicates the possibility of hosting a game in Mexico City. If that is the case, I would expect the Cowboys or Raiders to be the opponent and prefer it to be the Cowboys since I would hate to see the team agree to depriving Denver of Raiders week!
After Bo Nix elevated the team and proved a lot of prognosticators wrong, I suspect the Broncos will get a couple prime time nods this year, possibly against the Commanders or Bengals. They're not quite a compelling enough draw to pair them up with the Eagles. The Packers are another interesting potential prime time opponent with a solid young QB, and the lore of one of the league's greatest brands. The Packers and Broncos on MNF would be a fantastic draw. And of course, any prime time slot featuring the Broncos could potentially be a tilt with one of their AFC West rivals.
I have a bad feeling we're going to get a week 5 bye. I don't know why, I just don't trust this league to apply any kind of common sense in their scheduling. I could write volumes of content on what the league can do to improve competitive parity in the bye week scheduling, but nobody will listen so I'll just leave it alone and hope for the best here.
If I could pick a single game I'd like to see the Broncos play in week 1 it would be @ Chiefs. I say this because most years week 1 is a crap shoot and weird things happen. I think week 1 gives the Broncos their best chance to go on the road and pull an upset.
If I could pick a single game to see the Broncos wrap up the season on, I'd pick vs Raiders. I say this because despite the Raiders looking poised to be a vastly improved franchise and team on the field, I still consider them the weakest of the 3 AFC West rivals. From where I sit now, I think they are the least likely to be playing for a playoff spot in week 18 while the Broncos may be jockeying for seeding.
Team I want to play coming out of our bye: Any of our AFC West rivals. Short of them, any of the heavyweights on the schedule. I really don't want our extra week to prepare to come before a Titans, Giants, Jaguars type opponent. Though I know you can't look past anyone in the NFL, I'd really like to see the Broncos get that extra time for one of their rivals or the Eagles, Packers, etc.
That's it from me for now. Anyone have anything to add? I can't wait to see the schedule!
