I posted this the other day. As long as there are no setbacks on his way back with the knee, 6 weeks is March 19th. The Sixers have roughly 14 games left in the regular season after that. He likely plays about 10. The other scenario is 8 weeks. That’s April 2nd and the Sixers have 7 games left after that. He would likely play 5 of those games.

These games should result in Embiid on a minutes restriction around 25 minutes a game to start and then a ramp up to around 30-32 so he can play like 35-38 in the playoffs.

Morey has to get busy if any of this is going to matter. Sixers sit at the 5 seed now but they play .275 ball without Embiid this season. They just don’t have enough scoring to win games without him. I think they need to get 3 players by Thursday.
- secondary ball handler that can back up Maxey. Ideally he can shoot the three ball and he can get his own shot
- 3 and D wing that can also shoot the three and get his own shot.
- A 5 who can hold it down in the Embiid absence and be a solid playoff back up for Embiid who will need 10-12 minutes off the floor with competent play from the back up. For me, I love Andre Drummond to play this role.

If the Sixers can get this done, I’ll have hope. If the trade deadline is underwhelming and the Sixers slip to the play in slots, I’m more likely to see March and April come around and say it’s not even worth getting Embiid back on the court this year.

I will say though that the Heat making a run as a play in team though last year makes you think that if you have a squad that can matchup and play hard, your seed doesn’t matter. To accomplish big things you have to beat great teams anyway. So as a 7 or 8 seed you just see that kind of squad earlier in the journey.
