And I really don’t think it makes sense for GS to attach assets to move him.

Yep the better play is he accepts a lesser role. He's not stupid we'll see if he does.

I still don't get why the Memphis cut him. He played very solid minutes for them in the past. Unless there's something bad wrong with him from a character perspective, he's at least worth keeping around to see how much more he can develop

Doesn't really matter if he still ends up playing beside Reaves or in 3 guard line ups (Gabe might be out tonight again fwiw). It's not so much a starting issue but who he plays with. Those are defensive disasters. Ham since he's been the coach is really bad at managing line ups and in game management in general. He'll throw out a line up that doesn't work, watch it get hammered, and then finally call a timeout for a sub 8 minutes later than everyone else would have already made the adjustment. Who starts and who doesn't isn't his biggest problem. It's using your roster to maintain a consistent line up on the floor that can score while also not getting shredded on defense. He really struggles with this and most of the Lakers wins are because Lebron has to play exceptionally well.
