IST was a massive success for the NBA.

They don't need real viewers they just need the advertisers to think there are viewers.

The separation from reality is not important to these types of people.

The discussion has been around guaranteeing a 7 seed. But even guaranteeing a play in spot in December is unnecessary.

Yep.

And I said that was too much.

But a 10 seed feels about right to me.

Now do the quarter finals. Semi finals as well

"The complete In-Season Tournament averaged 1.67 million viewers across ABC, ESPN and TNT (1.56M including a pair of games on NBA TV), up 41% from last year’s equivalent windows (1.18M).* That actually trails the non-tournament average (1.77M), though that is primarily due to Opening Week. Excluding Opening Week, the IST average exceeds the rest of the regular season (1.46M). The non-IST average took a hit Friday as ESPN averaged a season-low 703,000 for Clippers-Jazz."

Additionally:

"And the early signs have been positive. Thursday’s semi-final between the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks averaged 1.6 million on ESPN despite starting at 5pm on the East Coast, while The Los Angeles Lakers victory over the New Orleans Pelicans achieved 2.17 million average viewers across TNT and WBD’s other platforms. Not bad when you consider what a typical NBA game would usually achieve in that slot and given the matches were up against Amazon’s coverage of Thursday Night Football."

What they are trying to accomplish they could do 5 fold by just starting the season right after football ends.

Wow, really?

Delay the season by 3 months? Dumbest shit i've heard all week and I was talking to your drunk ass yesterday.

How often do NFL games clash that much to an extent that it affects viewership?

So you realize that nfl ratings are much much much greater than nba ratings don’t you? College football every night of the week has an impact as well.

No shit!

But you're claiming NBA viewership would go up considerably if the season started mid February!

You know there are fans of both sports, right? You don't have to chose just one!!

NBA would be better served going up against baseball and taking their league season into the summer. If they did January through August they’d be in a better spot in terms of TV viewership. They can do the NBA draft in September or late August.

Why? Serious question. Just wondering why you'd be so against it?
For me, I would be against it for this specific reason....

Beginning of last Season, Utah was the hottest team in the NBA the first couple of months and then CRATERED, by choice or by force.

Say they won IST.

They would have taken a spot away from either the Lakers, Thunder, Minny or Pels.

All 4 of those teams deserved to be there.

It isn't how you start, its how you finish and it would have been really shitty for any of those teams to miss out on something they earned because the NBA is trying to come up with new shit to sell to sponsors.

I do agree it would add some stakes to winning the tournament.

I also hope it doesn't happen.
