Gutsy win by the Knicks up the road in Sac just a bit ago. 98-91.

Brunson went for Life, the Universe & Everything on the Kings.

What an embarrassing display, on ABC no less, with the biggest draws in the game playing each other

Shot clock thing was out of their control and shit happens, but there has to be procedures in place for that kind of thing because it does happen from time to time. Between that, the replay fiasco, and calls in general, it was a complete ref shitshow on the featured nationally televised game. I've been saying for 2 years now that the quality of NBA officiating has gone down (a combo of experienced refs retiring and some other issues) and people in the media are finally starting to pick up on it. With that display tonight, maybe they'll be a more concrete effort by the NBA to whip their crews back into shape

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- — Jalen Brunson scored 42 points, becoming the fourth player in franchise history with 40 or more in consecutive games, and the New York Knicks beat the Sacramento Kings 98-91 on Saturday night.

Brunson had 45 points in Thursday's win at Portland. He has seven 40-point games this season, when he was a first-time All-Star.

“You almost come to expect what Jalen did,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “It’s every night and it’s big play after big play. Every time you need a big bucket, he comes up with it.”

Brunson is the first Knicks player to reach 40 in back-to-back games since Carmelo Anthony on Feb. 19 and 21, 2014. Hall of Famers Bernard King and Patrick Ewing are the other Knicks to do it.

“I don’t have the resume those guys do, so it means a lot,” Brunson said. “But I’m just happy we found a way to win.”

There's like 3 games separating 6th and 10th. This team would easily be in that 4th to 6th range right now with a competent HC
Easily? Come on.

This kind of stuff is why I like the play in, so many more teams trying at the end of the season, what's not to like?
The argument against is that it rewards mediocrity and allows teams to coast when they should be fighting for a real playoff spot.

I agree with him.

You don’t think the Lakers would be 5 games better with a quality head coach?
No I do not, no way. Players win and lose games and any team with a mega superstar on it is always going to have a coach having to watch his back. Coaching can only do so much.

That is assuming the coach is competent.

Competent coaches are mostly interchangeable. Great ones can make a small positive impact in the win column for the regular season and can also affect a game or 2 out of a playoff series (which is huge).

But a bad coach? Or a coach that for whatever reason the players aren’t listening to?

That can absolutely derail a team.

And I believe that is what is going down with the Lakers.

I don’t see it, if Lebron wanted him gone to Siberia that’s where he would be.

Yep, probably 6-8 close games have been lost due to coaching malpractice.

There is simply no other explanation for it.

AD and James have been relatively healthy all season (except for the off game where they sit out) but the role players have been banged up with Gabe, Reddish, Wood, and Vandy. However, with a better head coach they would no doubt be in the 4-6 range IMO. Because, James is playing like he is a decade younger and AD is doing AD things.

I guess Ham has totally changed and forgot how to coach in less than a year.

I still think roster construction is part of the issue and giving mid role players 3 years will make it hard to shake it up this summer

Meh, by definition those 8-11 seeds are going to be mediocre teams that won’t win titles. I see no downside. Most teams do fight to get the 6 seed if it’s doable
