I mean, let's be honest here, the Avs tanked to get Nathan MacKinnon when they kept Joe Sacco as head coach to see out the season when it was clear he had lost the room. The commissioner keeps talking about the fantastic parity in this league, if that were true, why the need for a draft lottery? Just put all non-playoff teams in a bowl and pull them out regardless of their finish in the standings.

Seriously he is a star player that is only 24 and will become an RFA when the Hawks free up from the Toews/Kane deals.
If they only get a 1st round pick or picks in return that is a steal for whoever gets him.

They have literally nothing else to build around. They need picks and prospects to try and be good in 3-4 years. A season of ADB trying to put up points alongside plugs isn’t going to do them any good to improve his value so suction him off now and take what you can get.

I don’t think they’ll be left without a good return unless the new guy is just as bad as the last guy.

True if they get a good return. The challenge is the draft there is never a guarantee it will work. (see Boston 2015 )

They will have Kane/Toews this year also but after next they will have over 20 Million in Cap space free to bring in proven players vs the draft. That was my point they could turn this around as quickly as 2 years from now.

Once again like you said it really is on the new GM and how good/bad they are.
