For those that recall, pre-game, many experts predicted Florida would win. Odds makers had them pretty even too, with Nebraska being a few points favorite.

The painful results showed otherwise.

So basically, a single game put Nebraska at #4 and Florida completely off the list. Amazing how one game has such a large impact.

I'd have to agree. Especially considering #2 Florida housed (11-1) #3 Tennessee (62-37) that season.

I watched the show 'Saturdays in the South: A History of SEC Football (1960-70)'. The 1966 Alabama team went 11-0-0 and finished 3rd in the polls. That was the year that Notre Dame controversially played for the tie against Michigan St 10-10. Both went 9-0-1 and Notre Dame was voted the consensus national champion. Neither Michigan St nor Notre Dame played in a bowl that season. Notre Dame didn't play in the postseason from 1925-68 (44 seasons) for some odd reason. Back then, they declared the national champion before the bowl games....proof that there was a time in which bowl games were even more useless than they are today. Had a playoff existed back then it would've looked like this...How great would it have been to see a possible rematch between Michigan St-Notre Dame? Alabama would have had something to say about that as well.

What kind of fuckery is this, I don't know many who think '79 was Bear's best team or that 2009 was Saban's. Nor do I think '71 was anywhere close to Nebraska's best team.

Shit, looking at the list, it seems to me the only schools they got right might be 2018 Clemson and 2005 Texas, outside of that, I think most have better teams further down the list.
