We lost power for 16 hours but otherwise fine. All my old stompin grounds down the Shore are trashed though. Saw a pic of Asbury Park...The Stone Pony is still standing but everything around it is ruined & covered in sand & debris....sad

I've got some friends as well as my sister & Dad staying with us since they have no power so I really cant complain.

good to hear you are ok.

Thanks. I've been through hurricanes here and in Florida before but this one was wild for the size. Entire neighborhoods in Queens NY are gone as well as some in south Jersey hundreds of miles southeast...it was kinda scary

The fires in Queens were horrible, I mean, along with everything else.

Glad you are OK!

Good to hear you're okay DW.

Thanks for letting us know, DW and glad to hear you and your family are safe.

The sand in NJ is insane. Entire neighborhoods along the coast have sand like 8-10 ft high.

The Fed's hands were tied in Katrina. Cuomo and Christie did the right thing here which is why the resources were in place. The Fed cannot do anything until it is requested on the local level. I work in disaster response. Hell, I taught it on some level. There was some valid reason for criticism to the federal response to Katrina, but it is more on the way FEMA was organized than the timing of the response. Bush did a great interview about it on Oprah after he left office and even she admitted that she had no idea how it worked and apologized for blaming him and the Feds for most of it.

All that aside, disaster response needs to be streamlined. The locals have all of the power and knowledge, but the feds have all of the resources. Cuomo and Christie worked with the president in this case to prepare properly and all of them did wonderfully (Bloomberg as well). Nagin and Blanco on the other hand......well......yeah.....

Interesting stuff, 46.

I think overall, we can say that the state and municipal leaders, the Feds, and the power companies did an excellent job minimizing the damage, making the right decisions, getting the resources where they needed to be, and putting the right messages out there. Kudos to all.

Their property values will go up like $70K because they can now say they are beachfront property! ;)

Kidding aside, that's insane and sad.

Not at all Matt, that video seemed pretty clear to me as well. He refused to help her and was making it up as he went along. How anyone could refuse to help somebody in a life threatening situation boggles my mind.

Lost power Monday at 6:20 PM, just got it back 3 hours ago. The generator had to be used sparingly, and solely for heat with gas being impossible to get. Had a paid week off, read 3 books, ate lots of unused Halloween candy, and helped stimulate the local economy by spending an inordinate amount of time and money at a local tavern. All in all I got off easy, but wow does it feel amazing to finally have electricity back. WTF is wrong with the Amish?

No flooding thank god. Not sure what the hold up was at all by me. Gas is the big problem. Apparently by me there was a 12 million gallon delivery that was completely gone in 4 hours. Fun times.

That sucks about the fuel shortage. What would you say is the biggest reason for it? Lack of power at gas stations, or no fuel deliveries?
