Grays FB peripherals don’t look so good but last year to me is an outlier and 2023 was not so good but he may still play

We have about a month and 1/2
He did need that surgery so it could be that he does better with that behind him.

If we could get him cheap, i wouldn't mind Heaney in the pen.

we should be okay with starting pitching and be adequate with defense and offense, but we will suck with bull pen (projecting that with what we have in the pen right now that we will only convert 1/3rd of save opportunities and holds
They had 30 blown saves in 2023. They may surpass that this season.

You guys can’t be serious. 45 blown saves. Huh

Even if we don’t sign someone. A guy may emerge or worst case by committee

I haven't guessed at a number, but I do believe it is a bad idea to go on hopes and wishes when it comes to the back end of the bullpen.

Even if it works out and someone emerges, I will still see it as a bad decision. Sometimes in this game bad decisions work out and good decisions fail.

I try to judge based on the decision instead of the results. Anyone can use hindsight. I guess that is why I take umbrage when someone suggests I am criticizing a decision based on hindsight. Lol

From Evan Grant:

Elvis Andrus is at the rollout of Rangers Sports Network event & he will have an analyst role on some pre- and post-game shows.

From Jeff Wilson:

Elvis Andrus will be part of the #Rangers’ new pregame and postgame shows in 2025. A small number of games as he tries to figure out if TV is something he wants to do more in retirement.

2023 Texas Rangers had 63 save opportunities with Will Smith saving 22, Leclerc saving 4 and Chapman saving 4.

2025: We don't have anyone who can even joking be called a closer so if we get same number of opportunities, you expect that one of them will somehow save 22 games

From Evan Grant:

Mike Bascik & David Murphy will be primary in game analysts. @JaredSandler will take over the pre- and post-game shows on TV. I don’t know how much more Jared can take on, but it’s great that he’s getting more exposure. Sharp, knowledgeable & energetic

With Emily Jones having announced she will further reduce her workload, Laura Stickells (@LauraStickells) will be joining Rangers Sports Network as primary dugout reporter. Like Dave Raymond, she is a Stanford grad

I listen to the radio quite a bit. They are really good. Thinking some are simulcast
The postgame can be hilarious if they take calls on TV too

Yeah we don't want to give Gray a chance to be as productive as Matt Moore... :L

And unlike Moore, he could go right back into the rotation and be a decent starting pitcher. I would like to see him get a chance to close.

You're going to have at least 4 maybe 5 guys on innings restrictions (100 -125 or so innings) so I doubt he will get the chance to be a closer...

That being said they can still bring in another cheap innings eater like Urena and Gray might be given the chance to close depending on how they are doing...

I have heard Wilson and Rhadigan worry about innings restrictions a lot this offseason.

Here is what I think can be expected if the following guys start all year, either in the big leagues or at AAA.

Eovaldi - 180 innings
DeGrom - 170 innings
Bradford - 160 innings
Gray - 180 innings
Mahle - 140 innings
Dunning - 180 innings
Rocker - 130 innings
Leiter - 160 innings
Teodo - 120 innings
Acker - 120 innings

One thing they could do if they were overly worried about innings limitations is to trade one of the pitchers on limitations, Mahle, and keep Gray in the rotation. Then use the money they saved from Mahle and sign Estevez. I think the fact that they haven't done so shows they are not too concerned with innings limitations, at least not to the extent Wilson and Rhadigan are worried about it.

Those are pretty ambitious inning counts IMO

I don’t think it will be 45. But it could be around 35. This bullpen as it is now has a total of 14 saves. Anything by committee in sports hardly ever works. The cowboy’s tried that at wide receiver a few years ago. How did that work out.
