personally i would like to see them address the BP NOW and not wait until the Sasaki marathon is completed
I don't think anyone on here wants them to wait on the bullpen. Myself, I wish they had already finished the bullpen additions a couple of weeks ago.

From Jamey Newberg:

Ken Rosenthal (The Athletic) reports that Sasaki’s agent Joel Wolfe hinted that the 23-year-old won’t sign as soon as that January 15-23 window opens, even if he already knows by then which club he plans to choose. Writes Rosenthal: “y waiting, he will allow his chosen team to build up its bonus pool through trades.” As a reminder, teams can trade for up to an added 60 percent of their original pool, but not before January 15, as acquired pool money can only be used in the international period during which it’s acquired.
  • David O’Brien (The Athletic) reports that Sasaki, according to Wolfe, “doesn’t care if [the] team has other Japanese players.”

Nine more days before Sasaki can make his decision. Nine more days until the teams that feel they are still in contention to sign him, start trading for bonus pool money.

The Rangers simply don't need another starting pitcher unless they land Sasaki.
Who would you rather start this year. Money aside
Gray or Monty?

Going into the offseason if money were no object my answer would have not been either one of them. It would have been one of the top free agent pitchers available. It is very late in the offseason to take monetary decisions out of it.

At this point, in your scenario, I will take Gray because we have him and do not have to give up anything for him. I would rather use my trade capital for relief pitching. Of course, since money is no issue in your scenario, I would sign Scott, Estevez, Yates and Robertson, and go with a rotation of:

deGrom
Eovaldi
Bradford
Rocker
Mahle

I would probably trade Mahle and replace him with Gray once some team becomes desperate for a starting pitcher in ST, due to an injury situation.

think Gray has more trade value between now and opening day. Mahle probably stays and then between opening day and the trade deadline gets traded.
Opening day:

deGrom
Eovaldi
Bradford
Sasaki
Mahle

Contending teams very rarely trade away veteran starting pitchers during the season. If you look back at the veteran starting pitchers that we have traded during the season, how many were traded when we were leading the division or very close to doing so? That just does not happen.

Besides, why trade the guy with more trade value? Keep the best and trade the rest.

From The Bleacher Report:

Projected Starting Lineup
2B Marcus Semien
SS Corey Seager
LF Wyatt Langford
DH Joc Pederson
RF Adolis Garcia
3B Josh Jung
1B Jake Burger
C Jonah Heim
CF Evan Carter
SP Jacob deGrom

Notes
-The Rangers replaced Nathaniel Lowe and his $10.7 million projected salary with Jake Burger, who is still a year away from reaching arbitration and set to earn something close to the league minimum. It will be interesting to see who ends up having the better 2025 season.
-While he is not penciled into the Opening Day lineup, expect Josh Smith to see something close to everyday playing time between serving as the right-handed hitting side of a DH platoon with Joc Pederson and lining up all over the field in a super-utility role against right-handed pitching

Because we need a closer I would start Monty so that Gray could fill that role and he provides depth to the BP.
Just not thinking Gray is enthused about the pen

I do think we sign a closer fairly soon after a few sign first

i understand your thinking but how many teams are going to trade for a starter who hasn't shown he has recovered from TJS? and how much of his 16.5M salary are the Rangers going to have to eat to do so? with Mahle, Gray and Dunning, at least one is going to be traded between now and the start of spring training and if they get Sasaki probably 2 of them. IMO, it would be 2 of, in this order, Gray, Dunning and Mahle

Whether a team would trade for Mahle or not, is definitely something to consider. That would affect the return. However that might work out, you still won't see a veteran starting pitcher traded by a contender.
