I think Josh ideally playtime but Marcus needs to sit alot more. if Lowe is traded then theta frees him up more but we are worse defensively

Other option at some point is to trade Marcus maybe in a year
When interviewed earlier this week, Bochy mentioned how important it was to make sure Smith gets his at bats. He mentioned how Marcus would sit more in 2025 in the same part of that conversation.

Trading Lowe would create the issue that they would have to acquire 2 LHed bats instead of just one they are currently looking for, I’m guessing they are looking at Pederson and Winker…

I still can't understand why the media thinks they need a LH bat.

It's a residual problem from last year when they weren't hitting RHed pitching very well...
They had a lot of guys with poor seasons offensively. If those guys rebound, which CY says he expects to happen, it would fix that problem.

I’ll believe that when I see it. It seems like that up to Marcus whether he plays or not.

No way I want to trade Josh Smith. And think he has upside not yet achieved

But where do you play him? I prefer him in the IF but would have to move someone to 1B
I would trade Lowe. Move Seagar to 1B. Smith to SS. Make Duran the utility guy.

Seager needs to stay at SS. We are talking about a Hall of Famer. I want to see Smith be able to repeat what he did with a higher average.

Apparently, he was told that in his exit interview they have with players at the end of the season.

Seager will remain at SS as long as he is hitting as well as he has. Even at that though, he will not start more than about 110 games at SS every year. That number may even decline some going forward. The back up SS will always play at least 50 games at SS. If that back up can play 3B, then he can also look forward to about 30 starts at 3B.

A guy like Josh Smith who can back up both those positions as well as 4 or 5 other positions will get a ton of playing time.

He should be able to do that and hit .300 or better.

If is not something you want to depend on otherwise they wouldn't have went after Burger and are looking for more. The lineup had 2 humongous holes in it last year with Jung and Garver being gone, that let teams pitch around Garcia and a few others CY seems intent on fixing that problem...

Maybe the answer is to move on from Garcia, then. If we aren't counting in any rebounds then Lowe, Heim and Semien might need to go, or at least a couple of those four players.

I was ready to move on from some guys, but CY made it a point to mention that they expected thise guys to rebound.

The problem with that, is he expected them to rebound the second half of last season and they didn’t. And he refused to make any moves at the trade deadline thinking that. That didn’t work out very well.

Yeah, I completely agree, but it sure didn't sound like the decision makers agreed with that. Either our local media is wrong or the Rangers changed their mind.

I don't see what one RH bat could do anyway. You know the bat isn't going to replace Semien, Garcia, or Heim. The other culprit from 2024 is Lowe, and he is already a LH.

Carter is the LH bat they are already adding. Seager is LH. Neither Jung nor Langford need replacing in the lineup. They just picked up Burger so they aren't going to replace him.

The utility guy, Smith, is LH and doesn't need replacing.

What they need is a RH bat to platoon with him at times. A LH bat makes no sense.

I guess, the one way it could make sense is to replace Garcia with a lefty. Will they be bold enough to do that?

I agree with all of what you said except hitting. 300 or better. But I have been wrong before and hope I am wrong again.

And maybe it isn't time to move on yet from Garcia just yet, and I'm guessing CY is thinking the same thing...

Garcia isn't exactly what I would call a patient hitter (tries to do too much at times and chases) and needs someone good behind him to ensure he see's better pitches, which is Burgers/Jungs job. I think the team wants to see him be more patient/choosy like Seager and if he does he'll stick around a bit longer if not they will deal him or let him become a FA...

From Jon Heyman:

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, a financial gap remains the main obstacle to an agreement between the Yankees and Cubs. While Heyman suggested the deal could still happen—a matter of “who blinks first"—he also reported that the Yankees are exploring other options to fill their first base need, including top free agents Pete Alonso, Christian Walker, and Carlos Santana, as well as trade candidates Josh Naylor and Nathaniel Lowe.
