From Jeff Wilson:

Additionally, Sborz underwent a shoulder debridement surgery Nov. 13. #Rangers expect him to pitch in the first half of next season.

Rangers strike deals with Dunning and Sborz. Leaves Lowe, Heim, and Taveras as arb cases. Nobody non-tendered.

it seems that the Rangers are not going to do much of anything this offseason and that the starting pitching will be less efficient last year. the offense will around what it was last year and the bullpen will be a good deal worse than last year

JT Chargois, a reliever, is now a free agent after the Mariners non-tendered him. He has put some some good numbers.

If, and I know it is a big "if", deGrom and Bradford can stay healthy, the rotation has a chance to be better than what we had to run out there last year with all of the injuries.

They haven't really begun to build the bullpen. I will take a wait and see approach with the pen. Let's see how they spend their free agent money.

It seems CY has turned into the second coming of JD.

Can’t believe they didn’t non tender Leody. Don’t see him having much trade value.

Kind of early to project that. Not much has happened for anyone except KC

In kind of thought Dunning would be moved or we get him as a discount
Good insurance policy. Like your swing man/long relief

If he gets a chance to start a few games in a row due to injuries, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2023 Dunning.

Heuer has pretty much missed the last 3 years. He had to have Tommy John and then as he was making his way back from that he fractured his elbow. For a young guy he put up some good numbers prior to all of that.

wrote that after several glasses of wine and talking to a couple of friends located in other regions and fanbases who commented on the facts that the Rangers are one of the few teams in the MLB who have not been mentioned in several weeks as being involved with any free agents. hopefully the Rangers and CY are just playing it very close to their vest but you would expect to hear something

I have read about several clubs expressing interest in several free agents. It is a little early as far as bigger deals being completed, but not so much when it comes to reading about clubs visiting with free agents.

I am not overly concerned, because I am in the minority about what we need to do, anyway. For those who think it is critical that we sign Eovaldi, I can see where they might be concerned. For those who want a big bat added, I can see where they might get concerned if something doesn't get moving in that direction in the next few days.

I do like the potential front of the bullpen options that we have added. It sure would be nice to sign a couple back end of the bullpen options within the next couple of weeks, though.

From Jamey Newberg:

Winter ball update.

I found this mildly interesting. Playing for the Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League, Ezequiel Duran has nearly as many walks (5) as strikeouts (7) in his first 42 plate appearances. He’s played eight games at shortstop and two in left field, with one late-inning appearance each at third base and second base.

From Jamey Newberg:

Among the non-tenders around the league who jumped out at me as potential free-agent targets for the Rangers:

  • OF Austin Hays (Phillies): I’m very intrigued by this one. As discussed at length in the left field and center field entries in my roster-building series (see below), it would make a lot of sense for the Rangers to bring in both a strong right-handed hitter to pair with Evan Carter and a late-inning defensive replacement — assuming they want someone at a lesser cost than Leody Taveras — who can step in if Carter is pulled for a pinch-hitter against a tough southpaw reliever. Hays could fill both roles.
    • He hit .354/.405/.537 (.941 OPS) in 90 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers in 2024. For his seven-year career, he has an OPS of .800 against lefties (.719 against righties).
    • The 29-year-old was an All-Star — as well as a Gold Glove finalist (as a left fielder) — in 2023 with the Orioles.
    • Trading for him — which is something I’m sure Philadelphia exploreed — was probably not an attractive option given that Hays’s arbitration projection called for a $6.4 million contract.
    • This one is worth keeping close tabs on. Hays will surely look for an everyday role, but if one doesn’t materialize, he’d conceivably have an opportunity here for a significant role that could make a deal attractive to both sides.
  • Relievers with recent closer experience:
    • RHP Jordan Romano (Blue Jays)
    • RHP Kyle Finnegan (Nationals)
    • RHP Adbert Alzolay (Cubs) — though he’ll miss most of the 2025 season after August 2024 Tommy John surgery
  • Potential leverage relievers:
    • LHP Colin Poche (Rays) — Flower Mound native
    • RHP Brent Honeywell (Dodgers)
    • RHP Dillon Tate (Blue Jays)
    • RHP Tanner Rainey (Nationals)
    • LHP Hoby Milner (Brewers)
    • RHP JT Chargois (Mariners)
    • RHP Jacob Webb (Orioles)
  • Rotation depth:
    • RHP Cal Quantrill (Rockies)
    • RHP Griffin Canning (Braves) — barely; he came over on Halloween for OF Jorge Soler
    • LHP Patrick Sandoval (Angels) — expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season after June 2024 Tommy John surgery
  • Outfield options:
    • OF Ramon Laureano (Braves) — perhaps a fallback to Hays; .869 OPS against lefties in 2024 (.802 career) and can play all three outfield spots
    • OF Dylan Carlson (Rays) — switch-hitter historically better against lefties
    • OF Mike Tauchman (Cubs)
