The crazy thing about Jamey's answer is the amount of good pitching he did not include.

Leiter, Teodo, Santos, Bratt, Drake, Corniell, Acker, Davalillo, Porter, Bonzagni, and Garcia were not mentioned.

Max Acosta had 3 hits, including a double, last night in the AFL. He is going to force them to protect him in Rule 5, yet.

I think it is 50/50 Leiter starts the year as a SP.
If our staff is strong he is in RR to start off and first man up in case of injury or nonperformance

of that group most are not close to being ready to pitch in the major to open the season. i see Leiter and Garcia as the closest but i would start both at AAA with them being 1 and 2 to be called up if starting pitching is needed but both could permanent members of the rotation after the ASB

Yeah, most are between 6 months and 2 years away. I just don't remember a time where we had this many arms to look forward to.

Frim MLBTRADERUMORS.COM:

The Rangers provided medical updates on some injured players today, with Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News among those to relay the info. Third baseman Josh Jung underwent a tendon release surgery on Tuesday that will keep him sidelined for the next three to four weeks, after which he will start regaining strength with the hope of having a normal offseason. Additionally, outfielder Evan Carter had an ablation procedure on his back while outfielder Adolis García has been diagnosed with a strained patellar tendon in his left knee and will rehab for the next eight weeks before beginning his offseason program.
More to come.

More from Evan Grant:

OF Evan Carter underwent an ablation procedure last week to “burn” off some tissue that had been irritating his recovery from a back problem that limited him to just 45 games. He has since been cleared to begin a hitting progression.

Jung, who was limited to 46 games this season by a fractured wrist and lingering issues with the repair, underwent the procedure to release the ECU tendon by Dr. Steve Shin in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Shin was not the surgeon who performed procedures on Jung in 2023 or earlier this season after he was hit by a fastball by Tampa Bay’s Phil Maton during the fourth game of the season. He returned in late July, but struggled with wrist irritation over the next month from the area where a healing plate had been rubbing against the tendon.

In the procedure, the tendon was essentially snipped so that it would no longer be impacted. Doctors assured Jung it would not impact his ability to play. He had initially intended to get a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection in attempt to aid healing, but that would have required a six-week rest period to see if it helped. After getting a second opinion, it was determined that a “rupture of the tendon was inevitable,” Jung said. This procedure would ultimately give him the quickest route back to full health. Jung was to have a small cast on the wrist removed Friday and can begin doing baseball activities in about three weeks.

Watch him go through the rehab, and then still have problems with it, and then have to have surgery in late January.

The news on both Carter and Jung seems to be good. I am not sure about Adolis.

I think he is close enough to make a team consider taking him. He has spent a full season at Low-A, High-A, and AA..

Jeff Wilson says the Garcia injury occurred in the second to last game of the season. In other words, his struggles throughout the season are not related.

Jeff Wilson also says Carter has already started a hitting progression at TMI Sports in Arlington.

In and tecent post asking for mailing questions, I re-asked Jamey Newberg something that I had asked him a year and a half ago. Here is my question and his answer.

"About a year and a half ago I asked you this question and would like to see how you would answer it now: “Let’s say you are the GM and the owner tells you that he wants you to come up with a plan to replace each member of this year's projected rotation with guys who are currently in our system, and he wants the transition completed within four to five years. Who do you think the five guys will be and give an ETA for each?” This time you can keep Bradford, if you want to, since he is homegrown, but tell me who the others would be."

Fun one to end on.
I looked it up, and when Bennie asked this as part of a mailbag over at The Athletic just before the 2023 season, I answered this way: “Ideally, especially given the expectation that Texas will be in the pennant race these next five seasons, I’ll want to bring the young pitchers in one at a time — add one to the rotation in 2024, and then one each in 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028. I’m going to tell ownership to be prepared for at least one and maybe two of Owen White, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker to be traded before they’re established members of the Rangers rotation. With that, here’s the plan:.

Owen White (currently age 23): 2024
Tekoah Roby (age 21): 2025
Mitch Bratt (age 19): 2026
Brock Porter (age 19): 2027
Leandro Calderon (age 20): 2028

Roby is now a Cardinal (part of the cost to get Jordan Montgomery). “Calderon” is now Leandro Lopez. White did make three big-league appearances this year, but they were in relief (and they weren’t pretty). He’s likely now a reliever as he seeks to make his way. It was a good year for Bratt, a lost one for Porter.

All that said, here’s how I filter in a new starter in each of the next five years:

Kumar Rocker (currently age 24): 2025

Alejandro Rosario (age 22): 2026

Tyler Bremner (age 20; UC Santa Barbara): 2027

Izack Tiger (age 23): 2028

David Hagaman (age 21): 2029

They’re not necessarily the Rangers’ top five pitching prospects (one of them isn’t even a Rangers prospect yet) — but some who are will be traded.

Maybe soon.
I don’t want White anywhere near the big league club. Shouldn’t even be on the 40 man.
