Listening to Greg Cossell and looking at current stats Ted Ginn has become a legitimate threat at WR. He's currently on pace for 42 catch and 734 yard season. I wish we chose him over Kyle Williams this year.

I wish we still had Ginn as the return man as well.

Ted Ginn decided to sign to another team in the off season because his role for the 49ers is basically a return specialist. So it was his choice to go somewhere else

That was a really tough decision. I was a big proponent for keeping Ted Ginn while he was on the team because of his return experience. I battled on this board that he should be kept instead of leaving the return duties to a younger player. He ended up getting hurt and Williams fumbled our superbowl chances away that year. It just shows how important having a solid punt returner is to the team in those crucial situations.

I was okay with Williams taking over for Ginn after that game given his slot receiver potential, and from all the experience he got from that playoff game. He was looking really good until he got hurt, but now he seems to have regressed in all aspects of his game. As of right now Ginn would have been the better option. It's tough though because we really needed to infuse young talent at WR. Unfortunately we got a dud in Jenkins, and Williams or LMJ haven't developed into a return aces. Hopefully Patton can become a good WR. Maybe lighting a fire under him after this last game will get him back on track. I just haven't seen the same explosiveness from him since he got hurt though.

It would have been a much easier decision if Ginn was a slot receiver. Williams filled both those roles on the cheap. Well maybe LMJ can finally do something as a returner, or on offense but not holding my breathe.

Are you guys serious? Ginn never lived up to his opportunities on the Niners.

I don't blame either side for wanting a fresh start.

Ginn was a fine punt returner for us. Always a threat to go all the way. We miss that this year. How much was Ginn asking from the Niners? He's only making $750,000 at Carolina. We are paying Kyle Williams $630,000 to do nothing.

You forgot Ginn's signing bonus. He counts as 1.1 mil against the cap.

And for the most part Ginn was doing nothing for the Niners.

But wouldn't we be on the hook for the signing bonus whether we kept him or not? Maybe I'm wrong about that. Let me know.

Maybe his base salary was too high.

If you cut someone as a cap casualty, can you bring him back at a lower base salary, or are there rules against that?

Ginn signed with the Panthers as a FA.

Yeah. 1 year deal. 300k signing, 50k workout bonus and 750k base.

Thanks. I still wish we could've kept him. Maybe he was asking for too much money from the Niners. I just wish we had a dynamite return guy right now. Maybe LMJ can be that guy whenever Harbaugh allows him to return to the field.

In light of how suck'riffic the Niners' return game has been this season, I'd like to dedicate this song to Ted Ginn Jr. for the offseason:
