I will go with the 1984 Bengals.

They had 3 1st round picks, #7, #16, and #28 which was last.

They picked LB Ricky Hunley over LB Wilber Marshall (#11 Bears).
They picked OG Pete Koch over OT John Alt (#21 Chiefs) Imagine Alt and Munoz at bookends.
They picked OT Brian Blados over DB Scott Case (#32 Atlanta)
They then picked Boomer Esiason with the 38th overall pick.

IMO, the Bengals win 2 Super Bowls if they had made these Very Reasonable non hindsight picks (well maybe pick #28 is kind of hindsight but in the AFC they needed DBs and had already drafted a T).

This is not a Draft Busts thread. This is about a Draft that cost a team a Super Bowl or multiple Super Bowls.

The Bengals did not do horribly in 84, but a flip flop of picks and they win 2 Super Bowls, IMO. I doubt the Bengals have the Stigma they have today if they were 2-1 in Super Bowls and not 0-2.

The Redskins must've had some really bad drafts after getting all those picks from the Saints for the Ricky Williams pick to have them not result in anything.

1995 Cowboys Draft (The Back Up Draft)

Cowboys coming of a NFCCG loss to the 49ers, one in which they probably were the better team. Even today I remember the Niners basically had a bunch of things go their way in the 1st quarter and were able to withstand the comeback. They would go on to win the Super Bowl in the 95 season. But one trade might have Prematurely ended their Dynasty.

Its has become known as the BackUp draft as the Cowboys felt they needed no Starters, so they just drafted Back Ups.

The whole draft was Bad but this just illustrates how bad it really was.

Cowboys Trade the 28th pick overall to the Bucs for 2 2nd round Picks. In the trade to get Sapp the Bucs picked up 2 2nds from the Eagles, which were then traded to the Cowboys for Derrick Brooks. The Cowboys Selected RB Sherman Williams and OG Shane Hannah.

Career Stats
Williams
5 Years (all with Cowboys)
3 Games Started
302 Attempts
1,162 Yard
3.8 YPCarry
40 Catches
332 yards
8.3 YPCatch
4 Total TDs
9 Fumbles

Hannah
Rookie Season - Torn Ligaments in Knee
2nd Season - Out of Shape and Quits team during preseason
3rd Season - Cowboys give 2ns chance, Cut in Preseason
4th Season - Signs with Panthers, Cut in Preseason

Brooks
221 Games Started (219 Consecutive Starts most for a Linebacker in NFL History)
13.5 Sacks
25 INTs
6 INT TDs
60 Pass Defensed (though the stat was not a stat before 2001)
24 Forced Fumbles
4 Fumble Recoveries (which is weirdly low)
1 Fumble for TD
1542 Tackles (though this is a very subjective stat as they are different on every site)
11 Pro Bowls (97-06, 08)
5 1st Team All Pro (99, 00, 02, 04, 05)
Most Defensive TDs in a Season
Hall Of Famer

Now not only does this draft fit the criteria for the thread, I also now think this might be the worst Draft in NFL History.

Here is the 1995 Cowboys Draft, which ended a Dynasty...
2 46 Sherman Williams RB 08/13/1973 Alabama
2 59 Kendell Watkins TE 03/08/1973 Mississippi State
2 63 Shane Hannah OG 10/21/1971 Michigan State
3 92 Charlie Williams DB 02/02/1972 Bowling Green
4 110 Eric Bjornson TE 12/15/1971 Washington
4 129 Alundis Brice DB 05/01/1970 Mississippi
4 130 Linc Harden LB 04/09/1972 Oklahoma State
5 166 Edward Hervey WR 05/04/1973 Southern California
5 168 Dana Howard LB 02/25/1972 Illinois
7 236 Oscar Sturgis DE 01/12/1971 North Carolina

Probably wouldnt have won a SB but it would have improved the Bills by ten fold if they didnt screw up

Took Marcell Dareus over AJ Green/Patrick Peterson/Julio Jones/Aldon Smith all have become pro bowlers

2nd round took Aaron Williams over Andy Dalton and Kyle rudolph

3rd round took Kelvin Sheppard over Demarco Murray/Stevan Ridley/ Ryan Mallett

No one talks about it (as a failure anyway) because the first round picks have mostly been pretty good; at least compared to the success of any other team in the nfl over the same period.

Now if you want to talk about the later rounds, especially the 2nd and 3 rounds I don't much disagree with you. The pats have drafted multiple players in the second round on defense over the last few years that have been pretty bad on the whole.

How can you top Ditka trading the entire saints 1999 draft to the redskins for Ricky Williams?

That was the crowing failure on a coaching tenure that was a spectacular failure.

Thought that was the 2009 draft that Jerry said we only needed backups, and now not a single player is left from the draft :L

I think they did a fantastic job with that pick 3 probowl seasons from LaVar, 5 seasons of Champ Bailey until they traded him for Clinton Portis(better rb than Ricky imo). The high priced signing in free agency signing and always trading all there draft picks away is what kept them form winning.
