Considering that Eastern PA population is about double that of Western PA, I'd say the Pens fared pretty well. :p
I wasn't planning on pointing that out.

I get the whole intra state rivalry, but is this related more to the hatred of Crosby; or actual hate for the Pens?
Or the fact that the Western Pa team doesnt blow up the team after losing in the Cup Finals and have their two best ex-players win two Cups?
Just curious....
It's intrastate rivalry more than anything. For the longest time, the Flyers owned the Pens so we didn't really care about them. When Lemieux came along and they got good, the rivalry heated up and made Pens/Flyers games much more fun for Philly fans. It's a good rivalry nowadays I think.
As for dysfunction after a playoff loss, the Pens did a heck of a job trying to imitate the Flyers this off season.
What about the Maritimes, Nfld/Labrador, and Vancouver Island?
How much does Brad Marchand factor into the hatred of the Bruins?
Does Ontario really hate the Bruins more than the Habs?
I'd say strong... to quite strong.
Plus it presents an opportunity to shamelessly plug my video!
I'm surprised it isn't Ottawa, frankly. Habs rivalry is starting to heat up again, but there was just too many times that the Leafs sucked, then the Habs sucked, then the Leafs sucked again to maintain the rivalry.
Also, with the migration from Quebec and into Ontario from the 70s-2000s, a lot of Hab fans showed up in T.O.
Was that for the warmer weather?
Those five degrees make a huge difference in January.
That's Vancouverfrom the Asian Persuasion
