The problem is, in that situation, can we assume yet that Tommy has ice in his veins as a Redshirt Freshman?

It has been proven time and time again in close games that Taylor does.

No we can't assume that, but you really need to look at the quality of those wins and what got NU behind in them.

You really need to look at the quality of those wins though.

To me, the wins last year over Wisconsin, Michigan State, Northwestern, and Penn State were all very VERY good wins....

Trust me, I see where everyone is coming from. Tommy makes the Offense move.....

It's just in the heat of the moment, I can't honestly say I'd rather have a guy with no experience out there running my Offense than a guy who has been there several times already.

The best wins Northwestern had last year were Mich St (23-20) and Miss St (34-20) in their bowl game.

Mich St finished (7-6) Needing a win over Minnesota on Nov 24th to become bowl eligible.

Wisconsin finished the season (8-6).

Penn St (8-4) with a depleted roster, first year head coach, and losses to Ohio and Virginia was probably Taylors best win.

Decent wins, but not "VERY good" wins.

I guess I didn't think "quality" the way you were saying it....but I see what you mean. Every time we've had a chance to beat a quality team though (leading Ohio State 17-7 in the 2nd quarter......leading Georgia by 8 points in the 3rd quarter.......leading UCLA by 18 points towards the end of the 2nd quarter), our Defense went to shit.

It was then that we went into desperation mode and started chucking up 50/50 jump balls.

Maybe Beck calls those games differently with Tommy in the game? :noidea:

It's hard saying. But as of right now, I cannot give Tim Beck the benefit of the doubt, especially when he himself is saying that Taylor is more calm than he is when we get in those situations.

I think Beck has some serious anxiety issues

Taylor may be the best option when NU hits the November stretch. As a 4 year starter it stands to reason.

But as a fifth year senior Taylor stagnated in aptitude and growth early last year. He improved his 1-10 yd passing during summer of 2012, but that's it.

A fifth year senior should have the ability to audible out of plays sent in from the sideline into something he sees that would work better against the defense he's looking at.

As a 4 year starter Taylor has yet to finish the season at better than 50% in his last 4 games of the season.

2010 (1-3) (2-3 over 5 games)
2011 (2-2) (2-3 over 5 games)
2012 (2-2) (3-2 over 5 games)
2013 (????)

You would too if you had a boss named Bo and a QB that you were required to build from scratch.

I already know that when Tommy is amazing next season everyone here is going to be going off with the "WHAT DO YOU THINK NOW JJM? HUH? WHAT DO YOU THINK NOW FUCKER?!"

But ye all aren't getting what I'm saying. I probably am drinking more Tommy kool-aid than even a lot of you are.

I just don't think that starting Tommy over Taylor the rest of THIS season is the smartest thing to do. I really don't.

I do think that obviously it is very smart to start Taylor and if things don't appear to be working, put in Tommy. I think we're at a point now where we should be able to safely do that.

I think you do.

Do you trust Taylor to run a zone read keeper out of the shotgun on 3rd and 2?

Do you trust Taylor to run an option (a la old school Nebraska) on 3rd and 2 at all?

I don't. However, I trust Tommy in both.

I think that if Taylor is the starter when he is healthy, Bo will at least feel more comfortable knowing that there is a viable option to replace him with if he shits himself.

Sooo treat Tommy like they treated Cody Green?

"3rd and 14 from our own 1, go get em' Cody"

"Cometh here Tommy. Taylor has fumbled once and thrown a pick 6. We are down 17-3 at half. Go get em' Tommy".

:nono:

Bring Tommy in at the start of a new series when we feel like things just aren't clicking with Taylor in there.

That's how you spark a team, and that's what good coaches do.

Taylor could probably play next week depending on just how bad the injury was. I get the feeling they're going to rest him again no matter what vs purdue and then cut him loose vs Minnesota as a warm up game.

I will say I do agree with JJM that Taylor gives us the best chance to win against NW and Michigan. Just so long as he's 100%, the game plan keeps a more narrow focus, and Taylor runs the way we all know he can.
