Ok, I can't wait to read all the comments after that selection. I won't lie I'll be pissed if Giroux doesn't make the team, but after Ryan got left off team USA for inferior players nothing would surprise me.

Ehhhhh...probably not. I'd probably say Jumbo Joe or Getz. That's just my guess, mostly because they're the elder statesmen. Although the only returning player who had a letter from 2010 is actually Crosby. He had an alternating "A". 2010 had Niedermeyer as the C, Pronger, Iggy, and Sid as the A's. Man, you look through the list of players who may make this team...and it's really hard to choose a captain. Off the top of my head, I think these guys get a letter, whether C or A: Sid, Toews, Thorton, Getz. Although Thornton's not even the captain of the Sharks, is he?

Also, I was looking through some projected lineups, and some mention a top line of Tavares (switched to wing)-Crosby-Stamkos. I cried a little.

Another note: does Patrice Bergeron make the squad? He's in a "down" year points wise I suppose, but the dude has so many freaking intangibles. Well, some are tangible (FO%, PK, possession, etc.).

Yeah, but it'll be Jumbo's third Olympics. Only other guys going for a three-peat are Luo, and if they make it: Nash, St.Louis. Toews did have the best Olympics in 2010, no doubt about that. Who decides this, btw? Is this a coach thing, a team thing?

I just think it's a passing of the torch type of deal, I think it's time to give it to Toews - let Jumbo be a secondary guy, Toews won't be fazed by any of it - I think when your best player is the captain, that goes a long way

I get your point, it's not out of the question. I'd sooner see Getz get it than Jumbo anyway (there's a chance Jumbo may not be much more than extra hand anyway). It's just when you look at the history in the Olympics, it goes to a vet. Sid getting an A last time was odd. It went to Niedermeyer, who we all know wasn't in his prime then. Joe Sakic had it in '06, towards the end of his career. Mario had it in '02, tail end of his career for the most part. Just seems like in the Olympics it's more of a ritual than on an NHL roster (probably because the room is filled with Captains).

Unlike Canada, the US has 3 returning "letter" guys. Brown is one. I guess I'm okay with that...

Iggy isn't making the team...no way. And you're probably a bit biased in your analysis of Crosby there, hah.

No Iggy this year (too slow for the big ice and we need younger guys anyway), but I really think Crosby will wear the 'C' for Canada.

/I think with so many NHL captains on this team, the emphasis of who wears the 'C' is greatly reduced.
