Talks of 16 team playoffs because of possible lost games due to Covid!

So i don't know if many have heard but there is rumblings of a 16 team playoffs, this means 1vs8, 2vs7, 3vs6 and 4vs5. Bye bye bye week for the #1 seeds.

I don't like it as it now forces at the very least 3 games before reaching the Superbowl and not matter what happens two teams would play 4 extra games. Really takes away the reason for being the #1 seed. I don't like it.

What are your thoughts on a possible 16 team playoffs? I don't like it because that means 50% of the teams make the playoffs and the missed bye weeks for the #1 seed. .

I like the NFL current format. Leave it alone.

MLB always had too few, NBA has WAY too many. NFL got it right from the start. Just leave it alone.

Yeah, it sucks. Teams fight through hell and back for that 1 seed and HFA.

They shouldn't have even changed it to at 14 team playoff. 16 is unnecessary and like you said makes it waaaay less important to get the #1.

Like most others seem to be, I am not a fan. Some is good so more must be better doesn't always work. If the rationale is for COVID games, I think there's a better chance they add a week 18 to address that than there is of putting 16 teams in the playoffs. Hopefully it doesn't come down to either.

i just dont like the fact that this means two teams from each division make the playoffs. Ok not every division would get two ... yeah i am looking at you NFC East lol but you know what i mean. It washes everything down and it just feels so diluted. If their are lost Covid games i say extend the season to play them one week. Sure that means some teams might get an extra bye week but in a way it could add excitement where you got say 6 teams playing ( 3 games duh ) and the #1 seed not decided. Or that last WC slot. Could be like a playoff before the playoffs in a way...... wait

if this happens now i see why they might want to have a extra team in the playoffs because now EVERYONE gets a bye week unless you were playing in the Covid week.

To be honest it just messes everything up pretty bad so i would rather it be what it was last season with Less teams, with Covid running wild all over the US it just seems like less is better "for now"

I don't see how they can even impliment such a huge change this late. As someone said, if certain games are missed, delay the WC rd for a week amd make up games. And that should only be games that have a direct bearing on playoffs and seeding, imo. The Jets and Jaguars, for example would be a moot point game unless it decides who gets 1st Trevor Lawrence. Watering down the play-offs is just a bad idea.

If they do this, I think along with it needs to be a change to how the seeding works. Make it by overall record in each conf since half the teams will not be div champs. It would be asinine to earn the top seed, not get a bye, and then have to play potentially a 10 win team in the first round while the top wildcard (#5 seed in current format) gets to square off with whatever tire fire team ends up as the NFCE champ.

NFL owners on Tuesday approved expanding the playoffs to 16 teams this season if games are canceled because of COVID-19 and also approved rewarding teams two third-round draft picks if they develop minority coaches and executives.
