I guess that puts him up at the end of next June, hopefully with Polanco.
Thats a huge talent injection coming, bring up 2-3 a year and you can keep going forever, even with a small payroll.
The new draft system probably wont allow us to keep that up forever, but we have enough in the farm to keep it going for a long time. Plus, talented, overslot, struggling prospects can break out at anytime, and we have to many to even count off the top of my head.
Plus you have to figure that if this team does have a winning season and makes the post season that it will inject enough enthusiasm into the franchise that they might have a better shot at inking free agents in the future.
we then only have a glaring weakness at 1B.
we will have many people blocked as the above roster will be fairly young except a couple SP like burnett or wandy if we keep them.
we can then start flipping our blocked guys (or the guys blocking them if we feel the younger guy is better) in a package for what we need in a trade.
bringing in 2-4 prospects per year thru the draft and only aging out of 1-2 per year, will keep us ahead of the curve.
keeping on top of the pitching is key, as you can never have enough and almst everybody needs it at the deadline and in the offseason.
Taillon looked good in his first outing. His curveball is a hammer and he utilized his changeup to get ahead of hitters a couple of times.
His problem during the start was the same problem that dogged him in Altoona: his command. His stuff is so good though, even when he wasn't hitting his spots and leaving pitches fat, he was still able to get guys out. If he didn't load the bases on his own in the first (two walks and a HBP), his day would have probably looked even better.
Andrew Lambo smacked his 30th and 31st home runs of the minor-league season on Tuesday.
Lambo has posted a blistering .282/.343/.581 slash line combined this season at Double- and Triple-A. "He's not staying down there to get more reps in the outfield," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Lambo's defense. "It's not going to hurt Andrew to continue to get at-bats, to play, to hit with confidence." Lambo is likely to join Pittsburgh in September, if not before. If he's promoted in August, Lambo would be eligible for the post-season roster. If Pittsburgh pulls the trigger on such a move, Lambo would likely start against right-handed pitching.
