T-Rode's Unpopular Opinion - Session 3:
The Philadelphia Eagles won their 4th NFL championship, first Super Bowl, last year after 84 years of being an organization. Before Carson Wentz got injured, he was the highly favored option to win the MVP award. Once he was placed on IR, MOST people thought that the Eagles were done with Nick Foles becoming the starting QB. Obviously, that was not the case.
The Eagles were 11-2 with Wentz under center, 2-1 with Foles and 3-0 in the playoffs. Nick Foles went from backup to Super Bowl MVP in 6 games.
This year, the Eagles opened up with Nick Foles under center still, and started the season 1-1, with a win opening night against Atlanta and a loss against Tampa Bay. Carson Wentz came back during week 3 and he just didn't seem the same. That's understandable, however, due to him recovering from his injury and him get acclimated back in the offense after missing 8 games on the field. The offense hasn't been the same, there have been so many injuries on that team, it's hard not to be different. But....
Carson Wentz will NEVER be the 2017 Carson Wentz EVER AGAIN. The Philadelphia Eagles will NEVER be the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles EVER AGAIN. The 2017 Philadelphia Eagles will be the BEST Eagles team in the history of the franchise. There will NEVER be a better Eagles team than the 2017 team. 2017 will be the BEST season in Carson Wentz's career. He will NEVER be as good as he was in 2017. Injuries play a HUGE role in sports and they are playing a HUGE role in the Eagles' season this year. His injury and recovery will play a role in his career and it won't be a good role.
But, the main reason why Carson Wentz will never have a better season than his 2017 season is due to the organization itself. The Eagles had 3 WRs on their roster on 1 point in the season. Nelson Agohlor, Kamar Aiken and DeAndre Carter. Alshon Jeffrey and Jordan Matthews were out with injuries. What do the Eagles do? Nothing until the week of the trade deadline, where they trade away a 3rd around pick for an aging vet in Golden Tate. They did nothing for the QB that they traded their future away for. 7 defensive players on the IR this year, they've done nothing to help win games or protect their offensive output, led by the QB that they traded their future away for. The Eagles didn't resign, LeGarrette Blount, they had to put a RB in IR and Darren Sproles is out with an injury. The 3 healthy RBs on their roster have a combined 3 years of NFL experience, 2 were undrafted rookies and their leading rusher doesn't have 300 yards. The franchise isn't doing anything to help the QB that they traded their future away for. What was the point of trading up for Carson Wentz if you refuse to do anything to help him? With that said...
2017 will be the best season for both the Philadelphia Eagles and Carson Wentz and both will NEVER reach that level of play again.
That's my unpopular opinion.
