Awesome!

Knock on wood, but I cant imagine him being any worse than Sanchez or Zito at this point.

DFA DeRosa? Burrell?

60 day Zito? (<<-- this is likely: Did you see that ankle on The Franchise? Yikes!!)

I would never wish serious harm on another human being, but one can only hope this is enough to get insurance to dish out for the rest of his contract.

He could barely pitch before, and now his plant foot is pretty messed up.

I don't know if the Giants had insurance on Zito or not, but I recall someone from the Giants saying a while back that most teams don't have insurance policies on big money players as the premiums are pretty high.

If they don't have insurance on a pitcher make 9 figures, then the FO is dumber than we thought.

If the policy costs 5M per year, do you still stand behind this comment?

That's only fair. They hit us with a AA guy yesterday and we hit them back with one tomorrow.

It looks like contracts as a whole cannot be fully insured. Only portions of a contract 2-3 years at a time are allowed to be insured. And there are also payout restrictions as you might expect - so a 60 day DL stint probably would not trigger a payout.

It also looks like insuring against an arm injury for a pitcher is pretty expensive ( no surprise there - since even asymptomatic major league arms show structural damage ) . Maybe if the Giants were smart enough to insure against everything but an arm injury for Zito, and he's out >90 days, they might come out ahead on the deal. Yeah!

This. And also, a guy like Zito who before this year was never ever hurt, I doubt would be insured.

I guess not being on the 40 man roster didn't matter

Teams almost never insure big money contracts b/c the premium is too expensive.

Excited to see the kid tomorrow. He's got a good pitchers name (Surkkkkkkkkamp). Sounds like a Mark Buehrle type pitcher, with a little less velocity.
