17 of 54 (31%) Super Bowl losers have failed to qualify for the playoffs the following season. However, it's happened 10 of the past 20 seasons (50%) including the last two.

Will the Chiefs fail to make the playoffs next season? I doubt it. :D

Tom Brady is the first QB to throw 50 TD passes (40 regular, 10 playoffs) in a Super Bowl-winning season. He passes Kurt Warner who had 49 (41 regular, 8 playoffs).

QBs with the most passing TD in a season typically DO NOT win the Super Bowl. This is a list of all QBs who have thrown 40 TD passes in a season (16):
x-Peyton Manning--55 (2013)
x-Tom Brady--50 (2007)
x-Pat Mahomes--50 (2018)
x-Peyton Manning--49 (2004)
x-Dan Marino--48 (1984)
x-Aaron Rodgers--48 (2020)
x-Drew Brees--46 (2011)
x-Aaron Rodgers--45 (2011)
x-Dan Marino--44 (1986)
x-Drew Brees--43 (2012)
KURT WARNER--41 (1999)
x-Matt Stafford--41 (2011)
x-Andrew Luck--40 (2014)
x-Aaron Rodgers--40 (2016)
TOM BRADY--40 (2020)
x-Russell Wilson--40 (2020)

Bengals v Rams marks only the second time in the Super Bowl era in which both QB (Joe Burrow, Matt Stafford) are #1 overall picks (Peyton Manning, Cam Newton; 2016).

Some interesting facts I have seen...

  1. Aaron Donald has more All-Pro (7) and Pro Bowl selections (8) than Bengals as a team (0 All-Pro) and (7 Pro Bowl)
  2. Matches highest combined seeding in Super Bowl since 1975 when started seeding - both are #4 seeds (total 8) - matches 2010 (Steelers #2 and Packers #6)
  3. Both teams scored exactly 460 points during the regular season (Bengals gave up 376 points and Rams gave up 372 points)
  4. Cincinnati entered the 2021 season with 125-1 odds to make it to the Super Bowl. Only the 1999 St. Louis Rams made it to the Super Bowl with worse odds at 150-1
  5. Super Bowl LVI will feature the youngest combined head coaching battle with the Rams’ Sean McVay (36) and the Bengals’ Zac Taylor (38).
  6. Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp and Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase finished first and second respectively in combined regular-season and playoff receiving yards. This will be the first time the top two face against each other in the Super Bowl.
  7. Both teams were founded in the state of Ohio (Rams originated in Cleveland before moving to LA in 1946 - just after winning NFL Championship)
  8. Starting QBs for both teams drafted #1 overall from SEC school and both wear the #9

Cleveland is the only current NFL city that has neither hosted a Super Bowl nor seen its own team appear in one. Detroit, Houston, and Jacksonville have all hosted the Super Bowl.

I wonder why Detroit, Houston & Jacksonville have hosted a S.B. but not Cleveland? Now I'm no meteorologist but I'm thinking weather has something to do with it. :heh:

WR Max McGee scored the first TD in Super Bowl history....with a hangover. At this point in his career McGee was a backup. He told starter Boyd Dowler that he wasn't "feeling too good" and "I hope you don't get hurt." Early in the game Dowler suffered a separated shoulder and had to come out.

McGee had 7-138-2 and had a good case to be named Super Bowl MVP (Bart Starr).

There is no doubt fear is a powerful entity. Would you want Vince Lombardi knowing that you sneaked out and got drunk the night before the first Super Bowl? Holy hell.

Grew up in 70s and 80s with Max McGree (and Jim Irwin) doing the radio broadcast for the Packers.... Max told the best stories during the broadcasts... Irwin was a Packers homer, Max told it like it was.

Not only did Max he get drunk, he met 2 flight attendants in the lobby and went out on the town with them.
