I had wondered what would happen if you actually did cancel.... There's the answer...... They'll bend over backwards for your business. I might have to make another call!

Some general tips:

-As far as the cancellation department goes, there really is a limit to what they can offer at any given time. After the cancellation department, they send you to another department to finalize the cancellation. When I made it to the last guy, I asked him what their deal was. Told them I'm willing to stay with Directv, but I refuse to sign another contract. He said flat out that if he could've offered it without the contract, he would've already done so. Point being, know your limits and far you're willing to go as far as cancellation.

-If you do actually go through with cancelling, if you call their retention department to get it back prior to sending in your equipment, they will force you to get the Choice Package which starts at $77/month in order to get the Sunday Ticket. You can work that package down from there into the $40-50 range. They will also give you HBO and Showtime for free for 3 months with the above offer. They will also waive all installation fees, etc. since the equipment will still be connected.

-If you cancel, you will lose any previous credits you were getting (e.g. any discounts you received from the Viacom fiasco).

Let me also add that I just received a phone call from Directv trying to get me to reconnect. I guess I was put on a list and he hadn't known that I had already reconnected. Not sure what he would have offered.
