I love the move to get Dorsey & put him at the NT spot, but the Niners still don't have a big ol' monster NT who can plug the middle & push the center back that I've been wanting (Hankins, Jonathan Jenkins, Poe, etc). I know the Niners don't play a lot of 2-gap NT, but it'd still be nice to have.

So the question is will Dorsey be a 3-down NT? Or will Ian Williams get some significant playing time? (I hope not).

Maybe Dial can steal Williams' sot on the depth chart? I don't have a lot of faith in the guy.

I envision that Dorsey will get the lion's share of the snaps at NT, with Ian Williams filling in here and there. From there, I expect that Smith and McDonald to slide on the inside for passing downs with Dorsey giving an occasional rest to those guys. I don't imagine Dial being anything but PS this year, much like Williams when they got him. Dial seems to be the prototypical project NT for us.

Certainly seems like Dorsey is the guy who should win the job with his "1st round talent", but Ian Williams and Will Tukuafu have been groomed in the system for a few years by the master himself, Jim Tomsula. So I'd hope by now they can make a serious push to be the NT.

On obvious passing downs, here's what I'd eventually like to see:

LOLB: Lemonier
LDE: Brooks
NT: JSmith
RDE: Carradine
ROLB: Aldon

That would be one nasty pass rush.

Dial will be the NT of the future. He is long and big framed. Good against the rush, decent against the pass. The only problem he is one of those guys that are naturally skinny and has a hard time to keep the weight on(lucky bastard) And now he needs to add more weight to boot. He has the body frame to do it for sure.

Also, don't forget about undrafted free agency Lawrence Okoye. Have him sit out this year and learn how to push back the pocket. He is a monster and if he learns how to transition from rugby to football he will be a steal and a mean nose tackle.

Brooks too small to be a DE. And McDonald does a great job getting off on the ball and getting a decent rush.

I like that Dial is a 6'5 NT because he might be able to get his hands in passing lanes. The only question is will he have enough drive to push linemen back into the pocket?

You're right about McDonald, but Brooks is still a better pass rusher. And on obvious passing downs, a 260 pound DE is fine IMO.

When Carradine gets 100% healthy, I'm hoping he plays on 2nd & 3rd downs in the 2nd half of the game. Give one of the DEs a rest on 2nd down & the other on 3rd.

That wouldn't be fair.

Unfortunately, the Niners didn't get an extra 1st round pick, so there's no way they're gonna get Clowney. :( There's really no way to trade up from 32 all the way to 1 or 2.

They will have 2 seconds and 2 3rds and a first next year to trade too.

Don't take away my dream just yet.

Hopefully some people that the 9ers are going to cut this year can be traded for 6th and 7th round picks.
