It's gotta be tough when he is compared to DeMeco Ryans.

I'm guessing this has more to do with Detroit and GB than KC but...eh....not sure why you fire anyone, tbh.

Wilks was definitely not the reason that the Niners lost the Super Bowl. The defense played very well. Based on Shanahan's press conference today, it sounds like the two of them just never got on the same page.

I guess the DC is the one who refused to handoff to CMC... :noidea:
Or got the ball to bounce oddly and hit the back of a guy’s leg on punt return.

A punt that was kicked a bit short because the Niners special teams got pressure up the middle and because it was short it hit the blocker.

Sometimes you just lose and its nobody's fault.

Wilks wasn't fired because of the SB. This was coming and was expected.
I get that they had some struggles at times this year - I said as much in another post. But the guy was in his first year there, and his work in the super bowl was impressive. Andy Reid is terrific at preparing a team over a two week period, and Wilks defense easily matched them and flustered them a bit. I guess what I'm saying is that Wilks is good and his D would have been better next year.

And Baltimore. And Cincinnati. And Cleveland.

With the star power he has on that roster, he grossly underperformed.

I think the decision was made before the playoffs even started. Reports of Kyle and players being on different pages than Wilks kept coming up all season.

It just didn't seem like a good fit. Wilks is good, just didn't fit what the Niners have now.

I wouldn't say this move was expected, but it's not a surprise.

Yeah, I suppose if the HC knows they don't see things the same way philosophically, it's going to be tough..... even when results aren't all that bad. But, SF has been a bit spoiled by good coaches on that side of the ball - They better hope they find another good one.

Shanny saw there wasn’t much interest in him getting a HC allowing the niners to get more draft picks, so he decided he better try and get one the league doesn’t know so well
