Supporting the troops is a very noble cause, but the thing is, he has a job to do. This is one of the most important days of the summer for a hockey team and he should have been in Toronto. Any other day but this one.

I agree with B&W.

The great part about being an ally to the US, is the knowledge that there will always be a war that Canada gets to help us out with.

Besides which, Luke Schenn was there. These troops want to meet their NHL heroes, not some grandstanding general manager.

True, but I feel this free agent market has been very weak so he isn't missing out on much. Plus Richards and Stamkos are still not inked so he really didnt miss anything. If you want Jagr and Talbot, I'll talk to Homer and get them to sign with you guys instead.

That's not the point. Richards was in meetings all day with the teams and gm's that were coveting him the most. Instead of going to meet with Brad personally, he hides out in the middle east and sends his minions instead.

Burke does have a job to do but I also assume that he knows if he is going to be in the market for UFA on July 1st. I assume he had no plans to do so so I assume that his visit to the troops did not affect his team duties today.

I'm with Puck on this one.

I have have no problems with Burke being in Afghanistan. He has his cell phone and laptop with him; this is essentially no different than being in Toronto. Simmons is just trying to stir the pot.

If you are going that route, I would also suggest it is much more vital that Burke becomes Luke Schenn's best friend and shadow at this time (pretty key RFA), than to be one of many throwing darts towards a longshot like Richards.
