Steelers acquired former 1st rd pick Justin Gilbert from the Browns for a 6th Rd draft pick...

Wow. That's crazy the Browns were that down on the kid. Sometimes all a player needs is a change of scenery. Even the recently traded Mingo said it was a crazy "culture shock" when he left Cleveland. Let's see what Carnel Lake can do with the kid. He will definitely need some work, but overall I think this was a great move.

The team also released Doran Grant. Not sure why? He was having a pretty good offseason/preseason. Maybe he got injured?

So now with the release of Grant, Washington, Garner, & Shabazz the CB depth looks like this:

1. William Gay
2. Ross Cockrell
3. Artie Burns
4. Senquez Golson
5. Justin Gilbert

Loaded with talent, but this is a pretty shaky looking group with Golson likely headed to IR-recall. Granted they have Sean Davis capable of filling in so I guess its not a dire situation. But this likely means that Shamarko Thomas is safe for another season.

The release of Doran Grant makes sense now...

Read this from BTSC:
While Grant might be a surprise to many, he could be added back to the roster once Senquez Golson is placed on injured reserve due to his foot injury.

Under the CBA rules, a player who gets placed on IR-designated to return must be on the final 53 man roster for 24 hours. I am betting Golson stays on it until tomorrow, at which time we will likely bring back Grant onto the active roster.

Gilbert...pending a physical...I think a top 10 overall pick for a 6th rounder, on paper this deal looks good...it seems when PIT likes a player, they never quite close the book on them if they become available later on...for the short term I think he might get some work in the return game. Typically good teams that pick up players that have failed for other teams think the player can perform well within their scheme...let's hope that's the case here.

Grant...I thought he played well enough to stick as well...I saw your breakdown and that does make sense...once Golson goes on IR DTR, they have another slot and can bring him back.

I liked Gilbert in that draft, but I was more of a fan of Darquez Dennard who went to the BUngals. But I think that had more to do with Gilbert being so far out of reach that I didn't consider him an option.

Love the Gilbert trade. But... I also loved the Boykin trade last year.

Don't know what it is. Loved the Grant pick when they made it. Been rooting for the kid since.
