34 NFL drafts later, Ron Hughes retires

Been with the Steelers since 2000... The quote "His name is engraved on two Lombardi trophies for his work as the Steelers college scouting coordinator" says it all. Thank you for your service Ron! Steeler Nation wishes you well!

The fate of the 2015 Steelers secondary all starts with secondary coach Carnell Lake - Behind the Steel Curtain

Focusing on the secondary with this one... Well Carnell said it 2 offseasons ago that he had a lot of confidence in the group. Since then he has lost 3 DBs (Poly, Taylor, McCain). Not sure where he stands now, but I think he has to still feel about the same as he did. I like coach Lake and I have confidence in his coaching, but he has a lot on his plate this season. He has to get these young guys ready to contribute asap (Golson, Grant, Holliman). Gay & Blake are probably going to be the camp starters for CBs, which is a tad bit worrisome. We know the big question mark is going to be how Cortez returns to action. Hopefully he steps up! I still don't know what to think of Webb. Can be a capable contributor, but seems to only be a failsafe thus far. Eyes will be on Golson & Grant during camps because everyone is going to want to see immediate return on drafting these guys. Quite a bit of pressure on them seeing as how there was still quite a few athletic (not to mention taller) CBs on the board when they got drafted. As for safety... I'm hoping they give Shamarko first shot at Poly's spot. He doesn't seem to me like a FS, should Mitchell make the switch to SS. But I think those 2 will have a good season. Holliman will probably not see any sort of action outside of ST. Will Allen will be the plug & play guy.

Bigger question than all of that though is... What's Butler's defense going to look like? Will he simplify the defense to improve the secondary? Needless to say the main focus will be on producing more pressure, which will help the secondary. But I still think he needs to simplify it to give the younger guys a better chance at producing quicker. That should let the better talent play, and not just the players who know the system better like Lebeau had done.

Questions...Questions...Questions... :hope:
