They dont want to take a chance on him getting injured, then they would be able to buy him out.

im not sure this is actually fair to keep him away from everything. dont want him to play fine. taking his cap hit is fine too but not allowing him to the arenas either AHL or NHL is not fair. he should be able to watch from the press box and use the facilities to keep in proper shape to have a chance at a career still if hes able. I know its Gomez and where his career has gone but telling him to not even show his face which is what this is is not professional IMO

I dont really like it either but I wonder if he gets hurt while traveling with the team and training would that prevent a buy out as well?

I see Gomez's career coming full circle with him returning to the Devils at a discount price next season, especially if Zajac walks. I'm still not convinced he's done. A more relaxed atmosphere with low expectations and little pressure could do wonders for him.

He was never the player that his contract said he was. It was impossible for him to live up to that, and when he didn't, New York and Montreal are not the most forgiving environments for underachieving players and it killed him mentally.
