Andrew Wiggin's burner account
I was not a fan of his signing to begin with, but with each passing game that disapproval grows for me. I really haven't seen any progress with the team and if anything a total loss of direction from his philosophies he spoke of to begin the year.
Before I start on the actual rant, I acknowledge there have been injuries. I acknowledge he's had a short off season to get these guys ready and that it hurts him coming into the year. That being said:
1) Jackson lack of in game coaching bothers me the most. In huddles during crucial times, where plays are needed, he's the biggest spectator in the huddle. Mike Malone draws up the plays, tells the players what they need to do and is the one conveying those messages to the players. As a former player and coach of organized basketball I can tell you that players lose respect for coaches who do all the disciplining but none of the teaching. I haven't seen Jackson pull a guy and explain what he did wrong, as I've seen other coaches of some of the better teams do. This being with very limited time seeing the other teams play. You may say that is what assistants are for, but every now and then the "boss" needs to show he know's what's going on out there.
2) Jackson has gotten away from the main principle he said our team would revolve around: Defense. When you put a lineup like Lee, Klay, Rush, Curry and Robinson out on the floor, that's just ridiculous. He's trying to mismatch on the offensive end and sacrificing everything on the defensive end. I acknowledge we don't exactly have the best personnel to throw out there, but these make shift lineups tell me that he's gone away from that aspect of the game. Earlier in the year he would pull players who weren't going 100% on defense. Now it's passable if you can get half of it back on the offensive end.
I could go on but these are the two biggest peeves I have with Mark Jackson right now. I don't see him as anything more than a figure head of a coach. I think the most improvement we need to see in this organization, is from a coaching stand point. Keith Smart had pretty much the same exact roster last year and produced much better results. What's the difference between last year and this year?
