The question is if Luke is the one that turns evil is the new sith. I can see that happening too.

I really hope that doesn't happen... The entire original series focused on Luke being the hope, the light, the balance, etc. If Sidious and Vader couldn't turn him, and he turns Vader back to the light side, there should be nothing that's would make Luke turn evil. It would be absolute character assassination.

But it would be quite the shocker, which JJ Abrams loves to do.

- Kylo Ren is Ben Solo.

- Snoke is far from confirmed as Plageus. Kinda Plageus-ish, but more battle damaged and animalistic. That's not to say it's completely off the table, but appearance wise, not what a lot of folks seemed to be convinced of. Much like the Emperor in episode 3, you see very little of him in this one.

- Rey is apparently not Ben/Kylo's sister and it at least initially appears she is not a Skywalker (we'll have to wait until episode 8 to hope for any kind of origin explanation). That said, he seems to know her. Also, she is equipped enough to kick some ass Jedi style, and we don't really find out how she acquired these skillsPossible flashback to training with Luke as a child in episode 8? Hhhmmm...

- Han is indeed killed by Ben/Kylo, and Chewie is indeed enraged

- Finn does not appear remotely force sensitive. He takes the lightsaber because Rey doesn't want it for a while. He's okay with it, but not nearly a Jedi.

- Luke Skywalker does not have any lines and he's barely in the movie. He does not appear to be aligned with the dark side at all.

- R2-D2 also remains silent for the majority of the movie because it misses Luke, but BB-8 basically assumes R2s role.

- Maz kinda wants to hump Chewie.

- Remember that scene from the trailers when Kylo Ren walks into some snow filled forest and flips on his light saber? Not really in the film. Oh and the fight scene with Finn? Don't expect much out of Finn. Now when KR runs into Rey and they finally fight, she's got a little something.

Might just be hyperbole but I saw some film critics/bloggers on Twitter talking that it could actually get some Oscar Best Picture buzz

That sketch drawing of Plagueis, where 3 separate sources confirmed that it would be the same look Snoke would have, was completely wrong. I don't know if Snoke is or isn't Plagueis, but it sounds like he's not since that look isn't what the actual character turned out to be.

I doubt it's just hyperbole. With the timing of realease and critical acceptance, I'd say they we're planning on it being a contender

And I think it was always going to get Oscar buzz for effects, music/sound design, etc. Perhaps that's what they're referring to, and we'll have to wait and see if the actual acting awards and Best Picture categories deserve to be mentioned.

There can be up to 10 Best Picture nominations and Mad Max Fury Road is already getting a lot of buzz, so I don't know if the Academy would fit both Star Wars and Mad Max in there.

I'm guessing a chunk of this is due to nostalgia, prolonged anticipation, etc.

Now the fact that people like it better than the prequels is pretty much a given. Bringing the old cast back was more than enough to elevate this movie past the prequels.
