Fair.

but I definitely felt S2 dragged at times. And they didn’t spend nearly enough time on the boat. Build those characters. Make us care when a merc goes over the side.

There is a clear cultural issue that is just unfortunate. It is hard to keep all the characters separated. They all have the same color hair and the same haircut. And outside of the protagonist, none of the actors are recognizable to a US market (though 001 looks amazingly like Mads Mikklesen- that is the only reason I was able to make the connection during the reveal in Ep3)

I agree with you about how they all look alike...

but i really do love this show.... just for the psychology... but i do agree that cultural differences sometimes makes it hard to grasp...

but cultural differences also makes me enjoy the different games more...

S3 was a nice conclusion to the broader story arc, though we kind of knew from S2 that the pregnant mother/baby child angle was going to be a deciding factor at the end.

I tend to doubt the franchise is done, as we're very likely going to get an American-themed spinoff within the next few years.

They were kind of hinting at it toward the end of the series finale.

There's definitely potential there, but it could very well turn out to be garbage.

I still probably would've done it slightly different.
I would've kept Gi-Hun alive. Before having him make the jump, that's when things turn to shit and then they shut the games down with both him and the baby winning after all. He can either put all of the money on the baby's card and still give it to the detective to take care of. Or he can keep the baby and try to atone for how bad he was with his own daughter by taking care of it. I would've also liked to have had him go to Los Angeles to visit his daughter and give her some of the money he won and then have him be the one to spot the game being played in the United States.

Why not make Gi-Hun the new frontman? Frontman got his start winning the game himself. Somehow getting the two working together to bring down all the games worldwide would have been interesting. Certainly “shark-worthy”, but it would have allowed more universe building.

I think Gi-Hun sacrificing himself is kind of how it needed to end, considering how the character had been written and developed to that point.

It wasn't exactly the happy ending that a lot of fans wanted, but it's a dystopian-themed show.

I will say that the decision to end it the way they did kind of makes the whole b-story with the detective and search team seem like filler, which might have been all it was intended to be. They had to stretch things out to a minimum number of episodes somehow.

few thoughts:
1. season 3 finished the 456's second squid games very cleanly... it showed him how his attempt to END the squid games was foolish(really season 2 did that, but season 3 at least finished it), but gave him a final win in that he came to save people, and was able to save the seoul innocent... sure he died but he kind of had to do succeed in this message... as the entire 2nd and third season showed that one man can not control everyone elses greed... and greed was A main theme of this show...

2. giving the detective the baby and 222's winnings, i felt like this was more of a TEST than a gift... headman(who of course is the detective's older brother) wants his brother to live his life in happiness and forget about the games... but his arc was never closed, so does he use the money to find his brother again and stop him and the games, or do what his brother wants... will he raise the baby, or give the baby up... and if giving up the baby will the baby keep any of her money... this is an ultimate test of greed...

3 i like the idea of the organization being world wide and having games all over the world, would have hoped that the US introduction game would have been dice or something and not the same as the korean one... but i get why they would show it that way.... the imagery was stronger... but i dont want there to be a US version of this show, sure showing that there is a secret organizations controlled by the oligarchs of the world could easily be believable... but part of why this show was so succesfull in america is because of the cultural differences... the american version, will not have the cultural difference, or it will immitate the original version...

4. if they do make any spinoffs or any other international versions of this show, i would hope they focus more on the organization and/or the workers and less on the games, i would love to see the psychological battles by everyone... season 2 and three only really showed #11's fight... but didnt go into full detail about the recruitment... although season 2 and three made it clear that there is not much of a difference between the workers and the players...

5. one of my complaints about this season(although i still loved the show) was the deaths of the three( the son, his mother, and 222)... so the mother killed her son before he could become a murderer... but then commits suicide because she cant handle the fact she killed her son, and all to protect a new mother who just dies in the next game because she was too injured to play... everyone knew that after hide and go seek there would be a next game, as the numbers of people that wanted to continue was too small... so they all knew that there would be more games... i get that the baby needed to be fed right away... but was that the only reason to save 222??? yes, i understand that story wise, it was needed to get 456 back into the game.. but when he saw #001 was actually the headmaster, that should have been enough for him to realize it wasnt his fault.... i feel like this was just sloppy story telling here

i also do wonder... if 222 died in the hide and seek game, if they would have made the baby play as 222... but we will never know as it would have been against the story being told...

I think that was the whole point why it happened

of course... it was for the story... just wondering if it happened differently, it seemed like the only reason the baby became part of the game was because one of the betters bet on 222... and it was to make the betting more interesting...

if she died in hide and seek, then there would have been no interest in the baby by the betters... which makes me wonder what they would have done with her...

How does the baby not fall out while he is holding it over the edge? I mean it wasn't that good of a wrap holding the baby to begin with"

those are things i dont question... its a plot hole... but not a big enough one for me... thats like asking how the baby survived in the first place, or the mother... or even what the chances of giving birth that quickly and easily...

I agree. I fear that if they make a US version (continuing the story w/Blanchett) or just doing a reboot, political BS will get in the way and it wouldn’t be as good.

Having the mother walking on a shattered ankle just minutes after giving birth was a bigger “hole”. True, it doesn’t make sense, but it isn’t story-destroying, so I was willing to ignore it and move on.
