I would have to think our main interest with Sproles was in the return game.

Sproles. Some of you love names. A fifth round pick and 3 mil in cap space is much more important to this team than a 30 year old RB who is slipping in speed and ability.

The return game alone justifies a 5th round pick. So you rather put him in a division rivals hands? Sproles would of made the 3rd down offense better. He is instant offense. A 5th round pick is nothing for his talent. You guys do not like talented players. What a huge mistake. Phillys offense is sick now.

Plus the benefit to RG3. That has advantage's all over it. Sproles would of been like a G. Bernard in Grudens offense. I guess the move made too much sense.

So you want the 10th worst return man in the league? Because that's where his skills were last year. He has regressed so much that NO didn't even use him as a return man full time. They were looking for his replacement.

I would prefer we hold on to that cap space and find some upgrades to the o-line, or d-line. Honestly, the first priority for the skins is to protect rg3. The second priority, imo, is to build from the lines out. Our defense last year, which was predicated on causing turnovers, simply applied NO inside pressure to the QB. Coefield was actually tearing it up in the preseason, but he was cast as a NT in our D.
Fix the lines
Protect Rg3
These are our biggest concerns.
Definitely not important to get sproles

who is better on our roster jy19 for returns? It was important to get Sproles b/c he is going to the Eagles. No one sees that. He would of made our offense better. Especially on 3rd downs. He is a huge weapon. He will be missed in NO. I shocked Gruden wasn't banging the table for this guy

we can win the division. Absolutely. I think the Sproles move was big shift in the balance of power.

I don't doubt he would make our roster better this year. But how much? And what about next year? Since Helu and Thompson did n't get the reps, does that set them back? Oh yeah, what about that draft pick? Maybe a STs player to bolster a very weak squad. As far as returns, Roberts, who we just signed, led the NCAA in return yards his junior year. Crawford showed promise before his injury. Sproles was near the bottom last year as a return man. That's worth $3M and a draft pick. Dude, you are desperate.

of course it is. He boosts the offense. Will make RG3 better. You want to count on Roberts who is now are #2 WR for returns? lol.

Why is that funny? You've never seen a #2 WR return punts before? How long you been watching football, son?

Richard Crawford is our return man. In 2012, he basically led the NFL in returns with 8 for 156. It's a small sample size but it sure beats what Sproles has done the last two years.

There are a ton more......let me guess, you will now argue if the are #2s, #1s, or #3s, right? The point is you seemed to believe it was a joke to expect a WR to return kicks. Well, I've shown you facts (not some blogger or fan opinions) that WRs do return kicks with regularity.

Darren Sproles Stats - New Orleans Saints - ESPN

I hate to go this route but look at Sproles' recent stats - not all that impressive. He has practically been removed from his role as a KR and his PR stats are not very impressive. His only somewhat impressive stats are in the receiving area, but those are very misleading since Brees threw for over 5000 yds and just about anyone on that team will have those type of #s - would not be the same on a team like the Redskins.

You seem to be focused more on the name then on the actual player at this time. You conveniently forget that most RBs break down after 30. Now Sproles might have something left in the tank, but it is far from a sure thing so I would not get too upset that the Skins didn't trade for him.

Sproles is not a full time back. The age doesn't mean anything b/c he was never a workhorse. Yes his return skills diminished but its better than what we have. He is a huge weapon on 3rd downs and in the redzone. Those two things trump a 5th round pick in my opinion. Now we have to stop McCoy and Sproles.

How is it better than what the Skins have? Again - look at the stats. He has basically done nothing in the return area for two seasons. And yes - age does matter even for a part time back. You are kidding yourself & pretty much basing everything on a name. The Redskins have been down this road before & generally it ends badly. Sure - on its own a 5th round pick doesn't mean much. However - when you starting add all of these picks together it has a major effect & is one of the major reasons why the Redskins are in their current position.

The Redskins also can't worry about preventing a player from going to another rival. They have their issues to deal with & should be focused on building a team for the future. No problem with them not making this move.
